Field Technical Planting Coordinator
The San Juan Bay Estuary Partnership, or Estuario, seeks a Field Technical Planting Coordinator to carry out planting events and manage related data under the Environmental Management project in the Condado Lagoon.
The Corporation for the Conservation of the San Juan Bay Estuary is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that operates the San Juan Bay Estuary Partnership, or Estuario. Established in 1994, we are the only tropical and non-continental location within the National Estuary Program (NEP) under Section 320 of the Clean Water Act. Estuario operates as a partnership committed to their collective responsibility to restore and conserve the waters and associated ecosystems of the San Juan Bay Estuary and its watershed as a sustainable axis of social and economic development. Estuario’s work is guided by a master restoration plan known as the Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP) for the San Juan Bay Estuary.
Responsibilities:
Planting Implementation (Months 6–12)
- Develop and test novel red mangrove planting technique.
- Estimate seedling quantities for restoration areas based on test results.
- Conduct monthly planting, recovery, and survival assessments and replant as needed.
- Integrate and supervise volunteers per planting event.
- Document plots monthly with fixed-point photos and contribute to annual SBS Score calculation.
Monitoring & Maintenance (Months 13–120)
- Conduct quarterly KPI monitoring and survival/mortality rate determinations.
- Oversee mangrove maintenance and replanting based on monitoring data.
- Prepare annual SBS Score calculation and a comprehensive report.
Data & Other
- Collect and analyze field data following QAPP protocols.
- Manage KPI databases to track ecological and water quality impacts.
- Prepare reports on field activities, workshops, and monitoring results.
- Provide recommendations to address field challenges.
- Document lessons learned and proposed improvements to restoration practices.
Required Qualifications (Education and Experience):
- Experience coordinating, developing, and providing in person and virtual workshops, with special focus on green infrastructure and reforestation.
- Experience in projects aimed at communities.
- Demonstrated work experience with hands-on activities and fieldwork, including but not limited to school programs, leadership training, educational workshops, and/or awareness-raising activities.
- 3+years in relevant work experience in green stormwater infrastructure, reforestation, or coastal resilience projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in related field, preferred but not required, such as environmental sciences, environmental education, community engagement/ outreach, urban planning.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent communication skills and demonstrated proficiency in the communication of technical information to the general public, and strong interpersonal skills.
- Position requires a high degree of independence.
- Availability to work remotely and 7 days a week, depending on the Estuario and community’s calendar.
- Proficiency in project design, coordination, and implementation.
- Strong organizational skills, multi-tasking ability, and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in teams and in diverse communities
- Experience leading and working in a team environment with staff, partners, and volunteers.
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Be adaptable to changes in workload.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism.
- Provide exceptional customer service.
- Enjoying work outside and doesn’t mind working in inclement weather conditions
- Effective negotiator and problem solver with experience in fast-paced work environments.
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office, cloud-based data access and share software such as Google Drive, and other software such as Adobe or others are
- Provide their own personal computer and transportation.
Language Required:
Proficiency in English and Spanish
