Environmental Data Project Consultant
The San Juan Bay Estuary Partnership, Estuario, is looking to hire an Environmental Data Project Consultant to oversee projects and stakeholder facilitation efforts related to Estuario’s Collaborative Water Quality Monitoring efforts. The Environmental Data Project Consultant will act as a liaison between Estuario staff and other Service Providers working to develop robust targets and associated tools that will help the San Juan Bay Estuary Partnership assess progress towards its’ vision and other measurable environmental goals.
The Estuario will separately contract a Technical Support Consultant to identify water quality targets and living resource goals and for the SJBE at levels representative of thriving tropical aquatic ecosystem ecosystems by carrying out effective data management, analysis, synthesis, visualization, and reporting SOP’s and protocols. This project will evaluate and track water quality changes that can occur following anticipated infrastructure projects within the watershed. The Environmental Data Project Consultant will oversee the execution of the Technical Support Consultant contract and provide the technical/ scientific validation of the products developed under the contract. The Environmental Data Project Consultant will oversee the execution of this project and will act as a technical assessor in the development of a data visualization dashboard that integrates water quality monitoring conducted by members of the Collaborative Water Quality Monitoring Network and other relevant data.
ABOUT ESTUARIO
The Corporation for the Conservation of the San Juan Bay Estuary is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that operates the Estuario. Established in 1994, we are the only tropical and non-continental location within the National Estuary Program (NEP) under Section 320 of the Clean Water Act. The Estuario is a partnership committed to restore and conserve the waters and associated ecosystems of the San Juan Bay Estuary and its watershed as a sustainable axis of social and economic development. Estuario’s work is guided by a master restoration plan known as the Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP) for the San Juan Bay Estuary.
Responsibilities:
- Provide scientific/ technical expertise and validation to develop the living resource and water quality goals, and Estuario’s long-term water quality monitoring efforts that will track progress toward these targets.
- Lead project efforts in coordination with Estuario’s work and project team and be responsible for validating the technical/scientific aspects of the products that are developed by the Technical Support Consultant.
- Oversee the project planning and execution of the Technical Support Consultant contract.
- Work closely with the Technical Support Consultant to facilitate project execution.
- Develop progress and final reports and present results to various stakeholders as needed.
Required Qualifications (Education and Experience):
- Bachelor’s degree required (preferred fields: Biostatistics, Environmental Statistics, Geology, Hydrology, Environmental Sciences, or related fields), Master’s degree preferred.
- Excellent ability to synthesize information and analyze data.
- Previous experience in successful project implementation, planning, execution, interdisciplinary studies.
- Experience with environmental fieldwork, including inclement conditions and following safety protocols.
- Experience working in the San Juan Bay Estuary or with partners in the region is preferred.
- Clear understanding of the expected effects of climate change on freshwater ecosystems and urban infrastructures.
- Experience in building equitable and just working relationships with diverse stakeholders, including high-level executives, government employees, and community members.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills.
- Strong oral, written, and communication skills.
- Strong background in statistics and long-term data management.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently, efficiently managing time.
- Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office, cloud-based software (e.g., Google Drive), Adobe, R, MathLab, SAS, GIS or equivalent, or any other software required.
- Must provide own computer and transportation.
