Opportunity for Professional Services Contract
The San Juan Bay Estuary Partnership (Estuario) is seeking a qualified applicant for to support the Communications team and execute the Estuario’s social media strategy by producing relevant graphic, video, and written content that can be used for our digital platforms, particularly social media. This person will cover programmatic events in real time, including actions pertaining water quality monitoring, coastal resilience, hazard mitigation, waste reduction, evaluation of environmental indicators and ecosystems restoration, among others, and other special events.
ABOUT ESTUARIO
The Corporation for the Conservation of the San Juan Bay Estuary is a 501©3 non-profit organization that operates the San Juan Bay Estuary Partnership, or Estuario. The Estuario became part of the National Estuary Program (NEP) in 1994 and is the only tropical and non-continental location within the NEP under Section 320 of the Clean Water Act. The Estuario’s mission is to restore and conserve the waters and associated ecosystems of the San Juan Bay Estuary and its watershed as a sustainable axis of social and economic development. The work is guided by the Estuario Plan, a master restoration plan for the San Juan Bay Estuary officially known as the Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP).
The Estuario uses its Communications Platform to inform and involve stakeholders to ensure sustained commitment, and to conduct significant outreach and communication efforts to increase brand awareness and engagement, particularly in local communities as they continue to recover from hurricanes, the pandemic, and other events. Using communication tools such as print materials, signs, press releases, media relations, editorials, photography and videography, and digital media tools such as social media, podcasts, the website, www.estuario.org, the Estuario produces informative pieces, highlights, and press releases about all its projects, activities, and initiatives, as well as educational materials, technical data, and scientific content that facilitate implementation of the Estuario Plan.
The Communications Consultant (support) will work in close collaboration with Estuario’s communications team, providing additional assistance to execute Estuario’s social media strategy and develop content for media coverage that will be visible to a myriad of audiences, including at the National level.
Responsibilities:
- Generate new digital content including audiovisual and written content to promote and inform the public of activities and programmatic actions for digital platforms, particularly social media. This can also include invitations, promotions, and other content for educational or informational purposes.
- Provide live coverage for a wide range of activities and events in order to generate content primarily for social media.
- Provide raw footage and images for use in Estuario’s media and educational outputs.
- Engage with Estuario’s social media audience, through comments or instant messaging, as needed and within the relevancy of covered events.
- Provide visual and written content as needed for the Estuario weekly newsletter related to the events and activities that are covered that week.
Required Qualifications (Education and Experience):
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, digital marketing, or related area preferred. In lieu of a degree, the candidate can present a portfolio.
- General knowledge of natural, environmental science.
- Experience producing digital content, particularly audiovisual in English and Spanish.
- Owns the necessary equipment and tools to generate and share high-definition photos and videos on-the-go, including light video editing.
- Able to cover events outdoors and in the field, often in challenging terrain, such as rivers, trails and boat rides.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Basic knowledge and understanding of the Estuario and its mission
- Strong written skills both in Spanish and English
- Strong skills in photography and videography
- Strong skills in managing digital platforms and social media
- Ability to work independently.
- Knowledge of mobile content creation tools.
- Able to provide their own transportation.
Start Date:
Ideally, the candidate will be available to begin immediately.
Language Required:
Fully bilingual in English and Spanish.
