Environmental Economist
The San Juan Bay Estuary Partnership, Estuario, is looking to hire an Environmental Economist to oversee projects and stakeholder facilitation related to Estuario’s Economic Valuation Study, which will determine the economic value of assets and services of the San Juan Bay Estuary system. This service provider will act as a liaison and will be responsible for leading the technical aspects of the project and any other tasks needed to manage the technical aspects of the Economic Valuation Study.
The Corporation for the Conservation of the San Juan Bay Estuary is a 501(c)3 non- profit organization that operates the Estuario. Established in 1994, we are the only tropical and non-continental location within the National Estuary Program (NEP) under Section 320 of the Clean Water Act. The Estuario is a partnership committed to restore and conserve the waters and associated ecosystems of the San Juan Bay Estuary and its watershed as a sustainable axis of social and economic development. Estuario is a trusted regional science-based organization, supported by engaged stakeholders. Estuario’s work is guided by a master restoration plan known as the Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP) for the San Juan Bay Estuary.
As part of stakeholder facilitation and project execution, the Environmental Economist will oversee the Economic Valuation Study project. The Economic Valuation Study will determine the current economic value of the natural resources and services in the San Juan Bay Estuary. The study will incorporate traditional valuation metrics for non-market goods and services, stakeholder input, and environmental indicators to support Estuario’s restoration and protection goals, enhance community engagement, and inform story-building narratives better to communicate the mission and value of the Estuario. The Environmental Economist will be responsible for stakeholder collaboration, technical direction, and progress tracking to ensure that expectations regarding project milestones are met.
Responsibilities:
- Lead project efforts in coordination with Estuario’s work and project team and be responsible for the technical aspects of the Economic Valuation Study project.
- Oversee the project planning and execution of the Economic Valuation Study project which includes but is not limited to preparation of project schedule, project documentation, project progress and performance.
- Work closely with the Economic Valuation Study consultants to facilitate project execution.
- Develop progress and final reports and present results to various stakeholders, including the Economic Valuation Study subcommittee.
- Provide technical support in the implementation of the Economic Valuation Study plan as needed.
Required Qualifications (Education and Experience):
- Bachelor’s degree in economics, environmental economics, agricultural economics, natural resources economics, or other related fields required. Master’s degree preferred in related fields.
- Excellent ability to synthesize information and analyze data.
- Previous experience in successful project implementation, planning, execution, interdisciplinary studies.
- Experience working in various topics related to the environment and agriculture, including economic valuation practices.
- Experience working in the San Juan Bay Estuary or with partners in the region is preferred.
- Ability to effectively access and utilize computerized systems and equipment to complete assigned tasks, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, STATA, EVIEWS, GAUSS, Adobe Acrobat; and other systems/programs as needed.
- Own transportation and computer.
