Earth Month Begins
Celebrate the beginning of the month with us, and join our Aquatic Debris Manager, Cristina Ramírez, to the workshop, Plastics to Microplastics: Public Policy and Impacts; An illustration of the effects of plastic on our ecosystems and the steps we’ve taken to ease the problem.

Water Quality Day of Puerto Rico
The sixteenth Water Quality Day of Puerto Rico will be on Saturday, April 13, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at a body of water near you.

Estuario Resident Artists—Request for proposal – Estuario Resident Artists generate artistic expressions with the aim of involving citizens in the process of conservation and restoration of the estuarine basin, in a creative and culturally relevant way. Through dialogue and exchange of ideas on the restoration and conservation of the estuarine ecosystem, the resident artists manage to increase environmental awareness and facilitate the development of a resilient watershed.

Educational Activities at the Condado Lagoon
Bring your school group to the Condado Lagoon Natural Estuarine Reserve! The San Juan Bay Estuary Partnership is offering educational activities at the Jaime Benítez Park, including interpretive tours, workshops and other activities related to the topics of biodiversity, ecosystems, water quality, green infrastructure and coastal resilience.
Spaces are available Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., for groups of all levels (K-12), from public schools, private schools, or homeschoolers with a maximum of 30 participants per activity. These activities count towards Contacto Verde hours.

Other activities
Last Wednesday, March 20, our aquatic waste manager, Cristina Ramírez, participated in the discussion, Geographers in conservation, as part of the Environmental Conservation course, GEOG 3585 of the Department of Geography of the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus. Cristina shared her experiences as a geographer in the conservation area with Adriana Gonzalez, from Sierra Club Puerto Rico. We thank Professor Eliezer Nieves for extending this invitation.
Last Saturday, March 23, 50 volunteers planted around 1,500 specimens of coastal vegetation in Luquillo, together with the Coalition for the Ecological Corridor of the Northeast, EcoCulture and Reforesta. Thank you to all the participants, Rocky from the Pro-CEN Coalition, Mario García, Agnes Pagán and Andreína Alexatos, who led the event.

Weekly water quality monitoring
Evaluation carried out on Thursday, March 28, 2024. We have a GREEN flag for the Condado Lagoon. We recommend avoiding the area that exceeded the Beach Action Value water quality parameter for enterococci of 70 CFU/100 ML. Remember to avoid the water during rain events. Have a good weekend.
