Estuario Weekly Update

An estuarine greeting! Below, we share opportunities for collaboration, volunteering, and training for this week, through initiatives and actions scheduled to benefit the ecosystems of the San Juan Bay Estuary and its communities.

Earth Month Begins

Earth Day Winning Poster (Ages 5-17) in earthday.org, by Luke P.B.

Monday, April 22, 2024, will be Earth Day. We will be celebrating all month, with activities organized to benefit the bodies of water and ecosystems of the San Juan Bay Estuary. The theme of this year’s Earth Day is: Planet vs. Plastics.

Celebrate the beginning of the month with us, and join our Aquatic Debris Manager, Cristina Ramírez, to the workshop, Plastics to Microplastics: Public Policy and Impacts; An illustration of the effects of plastic on our ecosystems and the steps we’ve taken to ease the problem.

The workshop will be on Thursday, April 4, at 7:00 p.m. via Zoom. Register, here.

We will also have family activities, field trips, and more workshops on the topics of bird censuses, water quality, and coastal resilience.

See all the activities we have scheduled during the month of April, in estuario.org/eventos.

And of course, we’ll have Puerto Rico Water Quality Day!

Employment Opportunities

Estuario Resident Artists—Request for proposal – Estuario Resident Artists generate artistic expressions with the aim of involving citizens in the process of conservation and restoration of the estuarine basin, in a creative and culturally relevant way.  Through dialogue and exchange of ideas on the restoration and conservation of the estuarine ecosystem, the resident artists manage to increase environmental awareness and facilitate the development of a resilient watershed.
