Project Lead

Estuario is seeking an experienced Project Lead to manage various priority projects including the Multijurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan, Economic Valuation Study, and Clean Water Sustainability Initiative.

The Project Lead is a hands-on leader responsible for executing, motivating, and coordinating the daily work of each project to meets specific objectives and outputs, while ensuring the project stays on schedule, providing oversight to ensure the project stays compliant, within budget, and aligns with Estuario’s mission. This role involves overseeing the technical aspect of each project, as well as resolving roadblocks, communicating progress to stakeholders and management, and ensuring the team works together effectively to complete prioritized work. The Project Lead will act as the main point of contact between Estuario and any external service providers.

ABOUT ESTUARIO

The Corporation for the Conservation of the San Juan Bay Estuary is a 501c3 non-profit organization that operates the San Juan Bay Estuary Partnership, or Estuario. The Estuario became part of the National Estuary Program (NEP) in 1994 and is the only tropical and non-continental location within the NEP under Section 320 of the Clean Water Act. The Estuario’s mission is to restore and conserve the waters and associated ecosystems of the San Juan Bay Estuary and its watershed as a sustainable axis of social and economic development. The work is guided by the Estuario Plan, a master restoration plan for the San Juan Bay Estuary officially known as the Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP).

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the project planning and execution of priority projects while focusing on the technical leadership of each project
  • Prepare project schedule and manage deadlines
  • Coordinate internal and external resources, ensuring projects remain within scope, schedule, and defined budgets, in collaboration with project staff and consultants
  • Responsible for facilitating stakeholder engagement and communication related to the projects
  • Analyze project progress and, when necessary, adapt scope, timelines, and costs to ensure that project team adheres to project requirements
  • Work closely with Estuario service providers to facilitate project execution.
  • Coordinate internal and external resources, ensuring projects remain within scope, schedule, and defined budgets, in collaboration with project staff

  • Develop progress and final reports and present results to various stakeholders.

Required Qualifications (Education and Experience):

  • Master’s Degree in Environmental Management, Ecology, Engineering, Planning, or related field strongly preferred.
  • Other non-scientific degrees will be considered when combined with experience in the above-mentioned scientific fields.
  • Over 5 years of experience working in non-profits, specifically those that work in water quality restoration and conservation ecosystem restoration, water resources, coastal restoration, or similar areas
  • Expertise in science relating to watershed protection and management.

  • High level strategic thinking and planning
  • Strong attention to deadlines and budgetary guidelines
  • Strong presentation and organizational skills
