About Estuario
The Corporation for the Conservation of the San Juan Bay Estuary is a 501©3 non-profit organization that operates the San Juan Bay Estuary Partnership, or Estuario. The Estuario became part of the National Estuary Program (NEP) in 1994 and is the only tropical and non-continental location within the NEP under Section 320 of the Clean Water Act. The Estuario’s mission is to restore and conserve the waters and associated ecosystems of the San Juan Bay Estuary and its watershed as a sustainable axis of social and economic development. Estuario’s work is guided by a master restoration plan known as the Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP) for the San Juan Bay Estuary.
The Stakeholder and Engagement Manager assists the Executive Director and the Management Conference with engagement, educational, and outreach activities. The position oversees and coordinates Management Conference (MC) committees and pursues new partnerships and funding opportunities; they provide staff support for the Management Conference and serves as a liaison for various external working groups.
The Stakeholder and Engagement Manager is expected to plan, develop, and execute communication initiatives, promotions, campaigns, and projects that engage key people, staff, and community cohorts to implement the Comprehensive Conservation Management Plan (CCMP) and are aligned with the 5-year strategic plan for the San Juan Bay Estuary Programs (SJBEP).
Responsibilities:
- Coordinates stakeholder engagement, intergovernmental collaboration including relevant municipalities,
State Agencies, and Federal Agencies, inter-organizational collaboration, Citizen Advisory Committee, and
Water Community Network. - Coordinates, supports, and/or facilitates MC committees, working groups, events, and other activities, as
needed - Responsible for engaging with the public to ensure active participation in the SJBEP’s projects and
initiatives to produce the necessary thinking and behavioral changes that are needed to sustain the
progress made through our programs in implementing the CCMP. - Responsible for building relationships and developing communication channels and dialogue with local
government officials, private sector, and other outside organizations key to implementing the CCMP. - Provides relevant information to stakeholders, the public, and media, to generate interest and promote
engagement. - Organizes and manages community relations events.
- Tracks emerging stakeholder community concerns/issues.
- Responsible for the coordination of the CCMP Revision process.
- Develops sponsorship/business arrangements and relationships with businesses, individuals, schools, and
other organizations interested in supporting the San Juan Bay Estuary Program’s general operations and
program areas as needed. - Arranges and attends stakeholder meetings with technical team members and ensures feedback from
stakeholders and requests to technical teams are responded to within agreed timescales.
• Prepares and manages workshops, roundtables, and forum logistics including developing agendas, project
plans, minute taking, and production of reports. - Responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive and innovative community outreach plan
targeting individuals, private, corporate, schools, and other organizations. - Ensures that an accurate audit trail of all stakeholder engagement is properly kept and that all contacts
and/or activities are recorded on a stakeholder database. - Works with the Grants and Compliance Manager to develop proposals to engage potential partners on
behalf of the San Juan Bay Estuary Program in a timely and consistent manner, including the concept
development, gathering and formatting of information, and preparing clear communications. - Recruits, coordinates, and evaluates volunteers for the organization’s volunteer program; promotes
community involvement, and coordinates the Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC)’s meetings. - Ensures that the overall reputation and profile of the organization is enhanced, developing new plans to
showcase the current and emerging strengths to drive reputation within relevant sectors and within our
communities.
Required Qualifications (Education and Experience):
- Bachelor’s Degree required in Urban Planning, Public Policy, Environmental/Marine/Biological Sciences,
Engineering, or related fields - Over 5-7 years of experience in environmental or urban planning, environmental conservation, or
similar areas, preferrable in non-profits
