Green Infrastructure Specialist
The San Juan Bay Estuary Partnership, or Estuario is looking to hire a Green Infrastructure Specialist to oversee projects and stakeholder facilitation related to urban forestry, coastal resilience, restoration, and Estuario’s Green Infrastructure Master Plan for Stormwater Management.
The Corporation for the Conservation of the San Juan Bay Estuary is a 501(c)3 non- profit organization that operates the San Juan Bay Estuary Partnership, or Estuario. Established in 1994, we are the only tropical and non-continental location within the National Estuary Program (NEP) under Section 320 of the Clean Water Act. The Estuario is a partnership committed to restore and conserve the waters and associated ecosystems of the San Juan Bay Estuary and its watershed as a sustainable axis of social and economic development. Estuario is a trusted regional science-based organization, supported by engaged stakeholders. Estuario’s work is guided by a master restoration plan known as the Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP) for the San Juan Bay Estuary.
The Green Infrastructure Specialist would lead discussions with relevant stakeholders to align interests and develop partnerships in green infrastructure, urban forestry, and reforestation projects. This will support the development of strategies related to urban forestry, nature-based solutions, restoration, and coastal resilience efforts to advance reforestation and green infrastructure-based solutions.
As part of stakeholder facilitation and project execution, the Green Infrastructure Specialist will oversee the Coastal Resilience Project, a capacity building and reforestation project that restores capacity of coastal ecosystems to withstand the impact of severe atmospheric events. In order to restore these ecosystem services, they should be constantly monitored, particularly once they are impacted by atmospheric events, and conditions evaluated. Accurate information on the condition of the ecosystems will provide the baseline to help our vulnerable communities develop and implement equitable coastal nature-based adaptation solutions. The certified citizen scientists carry out the monitoring and provide the data that helps us to achieve resilience in critical ecosystems in the SJBE, such as coral reefs, seagrass, and mangrove forest. The Green Infrastructure Specialist will be responsible for stakeholder collaboration, project planning, direction, completion, budgeting of the project, and document and track progress to ensure that expectations regarding key performance indicators (KPIs) are met.
The Green Infrastructure Specialist will also continue immediate reforestation efforts with “Vivero Estuario,” a coastal plants nursery that was created in collaboration with Centro TAU-Ricky Martin Foundation and serves as a space to educate the community on the importance of green infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
- Lead discussions and develop partnerships with relevant stakeholders to align interests and develop partnerships in green infrastructure, urban forestry, reforestation projects, and the Coastal Resilience Project.
- Document the planning process that integrates stakeholders to form part of a reforestation network, that will include, but not limited to municipalities within the SJBE watershed that will be utilized as an engagement strategy to address reforestation efforts.
- Oversee the project planning and execution of the Coastal Resilience Project which includes but is not limited to preparation of project schedule, budget, project documentation, project progress and performance.
- Bring support to the reforestation efforts and activities of Vivero Estuario at Centro TAU.
- Develop strategies related to urban forestry, nature-based solutions, restoration, and coastal resilience efforts for projects under the work plan of these grants.
- Provide support for the development of a green infrastructure master plan for stormwater management.
- Identify and develop opportunities to advance reforestation and green infrastructure efforts in collaboration with other Estuario team members.
Required Qualifications (Education and Experience):
- Bachelor’s degree in Land Surveying, Agriculture, Botany, Coastal Management, Environmental Management, or other related field. Master’s degree preferred in related fields.
- Excellent ability to synthesize information and analyze data.
- Previous experience in successful project implementation, planning, execution, and tracking financial outcomes of projects.
- Experience working on interdisciplinary teams as well as independently.
- Experience working in the San Juan Bay Estuary or with partners in the region is preferred.
- Ability to effectively access and utilize computerized systems and equipment to complete assigned tasks, including: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint; Adobe Acrobat; and other systems/programs as needed
- Own transportation and computer
Compensation:
$40/hr., or commensurate with experience.

- Fully bilingual in English and Spanish.
