Estuario Project Coordinator- Coastal Resilience

The San Juan Bay Estuary Partnership (Estuario) is seeking a qualified applicant to support Estuario’s Citizen Science Certification efforts as Estuario Project Coordinator- Coastal Resilience. This person will be responsible for training citizens in the Coastal Resilience module of Estuario’s Citizen Science Certification. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in the field of marine science and possess excellent research and analytical skills. The person in this position will carry out workshops, conduct field research, analyze data, and communicate findings to various stakeholders, including scientists, K-12 students, teachers, etc.

Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate and carry out virtual and in person workshops and trips under the Coastal Resilience module of the Estuario’s Citizen Science Certification, including but not limited to coral reefs and sea grasses workshops, following any related QAPP protocol.
  2. Coordinate and communicate with participants/volunteers in the Estuario’s Citizen Science Certification Coastal Resilience module.
  3. Document volunteer progress, participation in workshops, and completion of the program.
  4. Document data collected during trips and provide detailed reports of activities.
  5. Collaborate with the Communications team to promote registration in workshops or webinars as needed.
  6. Document lessons learned and recommendations for improving the certification process and volunteer participation in the Estuario’s Citizen Science Certification.
  7. Establish ongoing and effective communication with partner organizations to promote participation in the Estuario’s Citizen Science Certification
  8. Support the Education and Citizen Science Manager in consistently improving the Citizen Science Certification process and its educational content/ curriculum, particularly related to the Coastal Resilience module.

 

Required Qualifications (Education and Experience):

Bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree preferred. Degrees in Marine Science, Coastal Ecology, Oceanography, Ecological and Environmental Sciences, Marine Biology are preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Three years of professional experience, preferably in coordinating projects and/or events in the above-mentioned or related fields.
  • Strong analytical and research skills, with experience in collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and communicating scientific data.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex scientific concepts to a variety of audiences.
  • Develop and present educational materials as needed.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management abilities to handle multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Experience working in the field, including in adverse weather conditions.
  • Capability to operate independently.
  • The ideal candidate is particularly interested in climate change and adaptation, has previous experience managing green areas, and is physically skilled in swimming, snorkeling, diving, and other marine activities.
  • Exceptional team player who thrives in facilitating collaboration within multi-disciplinary, fast-paced teams.
  • Provide their own personal computer and transportation as well personal snorkeling equipment.
  • Scuba Diving License preferred.
  • Passion for marine conservation and commitment to preserving the environment.

Language Required:

Fully bilingual in English and Spanish.
