Coastal planting in Piñones

On Saturday, October 19, 2024, ten citizen scientists planted about 300 specimens of coastal vegetation in Piñones, including red mangrove propagules, button mangroves and beach grapes. The planting counted as field experience for the certification through the Estuario Coastal Resilience module. The coordinators, Andreína Alexatos and Agnes Pagán, led the event.

Thank you to all the participants! Get certified as a citizen scientist with the Estuario Coastal Resilience module. View the next scheduled events at estuario.org/ccc.

Coastal resilience with students

On Friday, November 1, 2024, 54 Saint John’s School 11th grade students dedicated their Community Day to the coastal resilience of the Condado Lagoon.

After an introductory talk to the Estuario Coastal Resilience module, they planted about 300 red mangrove seedlings and cleaned up the surroundings of the Lagoon. The time spent by these students counts as community service hours.

We are grateful for the support of our experts, Andreína Alexatos, Stacey Larancuent, Mario García and Agnes Pagán. Special thanks to the teacher, Rosa Rivera, for her support in planting mangroves.
