Opportunity for Professional Services Contract
The San Juan Bay Estuary Partnership (Estuario) is seeking a qualified applicant for to support the Communications team and execute the Estuario’s social media strategy by creating graphic design, video, and written content that can be used for other digital platforms. This position will cover special events in person that will have high visibility such as the Revision of the Estuario’s Plan, Estuario Summit 2024, Estuario’s 30th anniversary, Estuario 5k (2025), and visits with stakeholders/partners and ensure they are included in the Estuario’s digital platforms, particularly social media.
ABOUT ESTUARIO
The Corporation for the Conservation of the San Juan Bay Estuary is a 501©3 non-profit organization that operates the San Juan Bay Estuary Partnership, or Estuario. The Estuario became part of the National Estuary Program (NEP) in 1994 and is the only tropical and non-continental location within the NEP under Section 320 of the Clean Water Act. The Estuario’s mission is to restore and conserve the waters and associated ecosystems of the San Juan Bay Estuary and its watershed as a sustainable axis of social and economic development. The work is guided by the Estuario Plan, a master restoration plan for the San Juan Bay Estuary officially known as the Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP).
The Estuario uses its Communications Platform to inform and involve stakeholders to ensure sustained commitment, and to conduct significant outreach and communication efforts to increase brand awareness and engagement, particularly in local communities as they continue to recover from hurricanes, the pandemic, and other events. Using communication tools such as print materials, signs, press releases, media relations, editorials, photography and videography, and digital media tools such as social media, podcasts, the website, www.estuario.org, the Estuario produces informative pieces, highlights, and press releases about all its projects, activities, and initiatives, as well as educational materials, technical data, and scientific content that facilitate implementation of the Estuario Plan.
The Communications Consultant will work in close collaboration with Estuario’s communications team, providing additional support to execute Estuario’s social media strategy, develop content for media coverage (various platforms) which will be visible often times for different audiences, including at the national level.
Responsibilities:
- Generate new digital content including video, graphics, and written content to promote and inform the public of activities and events of the organization for digital platforms, particularly social media and the Estuario website.
- Provide graphic design services for social media, website, and other channels as requested by the Estuario staff. This can include invitations, promotions, and other content for educational or informational purposes for social media and/or other digital platforms as needed.
- Provide media coverage (in-person as needed) for high visibility special events and activities in order to generate content and graphics for primarily social media, and other digital platforms as needed. This includes but is not limited to activities related to Revision of the Estuario’s Plan, Estuario Summit 2024, Estuario’s 30th anniversary, Estuario 5k (2025), and visits with stakeholders/partners.
- Manage and coordinate communications needs (resources, supplies, communications services) for activities and events, particularly for in-person special events.
- Support the continuous improvement of the website content (digital and written) and graphic design in coordination with the Communications team and as requested by the Estuario staff.
- Provide content for the the Estuario weekly newsletter related to the events and activities that are covered that week.
Required Qualifications (Education and Experience):
- Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, digital marketing, or related area
- General knowledge of natural, environmental science
- Experience producing multimedia and social media content in English and Spanish, editing videos
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Basic knowledge and understanding of the Estuario and its mission
- Strong written skills both in Spanish and English
- Strong skills in digital photography and videography,
- Strong skills in managing digital platforms/social media
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of products, particularly Outlook (managing a contact database), Word, and Excel (creating charts and graphics).
- Ability to work independently
- Provide their own personal computer and transportation.
Start Date:
Ideally, the candidate will be available to begin immediately.
Language Required:
Fully bilingual in English and Spanish.
