Estuario Weekly Update
This week, we highlight the power of partnerships as a driver for the conservation and resilience of estuarine coastal ecosystems. From educational workshops to restoration and reforestation actions, we continue to join forces with communities, schools, municipalities, and organizations to protect our beaches, mangroves, and rivers.
Each collaboration strengthens our collective impact and reinforces our shared commitment to healthier, safer coastlines. Together we achieve cleaner waters!
Estuario and L’Oréal Caribe create alliance to increase biodiversity in the Condado Lagoon
On Thursday, May 22, 2025, International Biodiversity Day, the San Juan Bay Estuary Partnership (SJBEP) and L’Oréal Caribe announced a new partnership that strengthens the coastline of the Condado Lagoon Natural Estuarine Reserve. The alliance aims to ensure a long-term increase of biodiversity in the coastal ecosystems of the Reserve: mangroves, seagrasses and corals. We will start in June 2025 and for a period of 10 years we will carry out efforts to restore and improve coastal ecosystems.
The public will participate through the Estuario Certification for Citizen Scientists, which transfers technical knowledge to interested volunteers. To be part of this project, go to: estuario.org/ccc and join the Coastal Resilience Module.

Estuario joins the Recycling Pop-up in Loíza
As part of the campaign: Deja una huella limpia en Piñones, and International Recycling Day, the SJBEP was present at LimPiaR’s Recycling Pop up event, in the Municipality of Loíza, on Saturday, May 17, 2025. This event takes place on the third Saturday of each month, in the Miguel Fuentes Pinet Park in Loíza. During the process, the diversion of materials such as #1, #2, #5 plastic, aluminum, brass and corrugated cardboard is encouraged.
Through its educational table, the SJBEP highlighted the importance of conserving water resources, as well as gray infrastructure, through the correct diversion of used vegetable oil, thus supporting the vegetable oil diversion program of the Municipality of Loíza. Until next time!

SJBEP present at the First Eco Community Festival of Puerto Nuevo
The SJBEP was present at the First Eco Community Festival of Puerto Nuevo, held on Saturday, May 17, 2025. This event sought to unite the community of Puerto Nuevo to learn about the efforts of organizations, academia and others focused on the environmental condition of the region.
The SJBEP provided its educational table, where it guided the participants on the importance of the correct diversion of vegetable oil and its various responsible waste management campaigns, as well as the actions necessary to conserve the quality of our waters.
We thank the coordinators of the event, as well as all those who approached our table and enjoyed the activities.
