Estuario Weekly Update

This week, we share more efforts and opportunities to strengthen the waters connected to the San Juan Bay Estuary (SJBE), its ecosystems and communities. Happy new year!

SJBE Citizens Advisory Committee Meeting

The San Juan Bay Estuary Partnership (SJBEP) invites you to the next meeting of the Citizens Advisory Committee, on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the SJBEP offices and with virtual space, through Zoom.

We will share the progress of the FY 2026 Work Plan and discuss the proposed FY 2027 plan. This space is an opportunity to learn about the actions we carry out for the restoration and management of the waters and ecosystems connected to the SJBE, ask questions, share ideas and be part of the dialogue that strengthens this collaborative work.

Confirm your participation at estuario.org/eventos.

Gamaliel Pagán Hernández Christmas Bird Census

The 2025-2026 season of the Gamaliel Pagán Hernández Christmas Bird Census continues.

There are still spaces for the January 7 and 8 censuses. Join us in assessing the health of the ecosystems connected to the SJBE, through the counting and documentation of endemic and migratory birds. Register today!

The censuses will count toward Contacto Verde or community service hours. Sign up in estuario.org/eventos.

Weekly water quality monitoring

Evaluation carried out on Thursday, January 1, 2026. We have a RED flag for the Condado Lagoon. We recommend avoiding the areas that exceeded the «Beach Action Value» water quality parameter for enterococci of 70 CFU/100 ML. Remember to avoid the water during rain events.
