Estuario Weekly Update

Estuarine greetings! Through our weekly update, we share the events and opportunities for collaboration, training and volunteering scheduled for the benefit of the San Juan Bay estuary, its ecosystems and communities.

Summit 2024

We did it! This week we held the Estuario Summit, on December 2, 3 and 4, 2024. We had three productive days of sharing knowledge and generating ideas, for the benefit of the waters of the Metropolitan Area of Puerto Rico. It would not have been possible without the work of a first-class team, the dedication of our volunteers and the commitment of our speakers, panelists and the public.

We congratulate the fifteen volunteers who received their Certification for Citizen Scientists in the Coastal Resilience Module, during the Resilience to Climate Change conference, on Tuesday, December 3, thus authenticating their training in the themes of restoration of dunes, mangroves, seagrasses and coral reefs.

We greatly appreciate the College of Engineers and Surveyors of Puerto Rico, who opened their doors to this event and made us feel at home. Their collaboration is key to transforming the metropolitan region of San Juan into a stronger and more sustainable one.

Thank you and until next time!

Weekly water quality monitoring

Evaluation carried out on Thursday, December 5, 2024. We have a GREEN flag for the Condado Lagoon. Only the Manuel Rodríguez Serra Street station exceeded the Beach Action Value water quality parameter of 70 CFU/100 ML—we recommend avoiding this area. Remember to avoid the water during precipitation events. Have a good weekend!
