Stakeholder and Engagement Coordinator (Full-time staff position)

The San Juan Bay Estuary Partnership (Estuario) is seeking a qualified applicant for a full-time staff position as Stakeholder and Engagement Coordinator. The Stakeholder and Engagement Coordinator supports Estuario’s role as a regional convener, catalyst, and facilitator to restore and maintain clean waters that support thriving ecosystems, healthy communities, and a vibrant ecosystem in the San Juan Bay Estuary and its urbanized watershed.

The Stakeholder and Engagement Coordinator assists the Executive Director and the Senior Program Manager with engagement, educational, and outreach activities. The position coordinates Management Conference (MC) committees and pursues new partnerships and collaborative opportunities; they provide staff support for the Management Conference and serves as a liaison for various external working groups.

The Stakeholder and Engagement Coordinator is expected to plan, develop, and execute communication initiatives, promotions, campaigns, and projects that engage key people, staff, and community cohorts to implement the Comprehensive Conservation Management Plan (CCMP) and are aligned with the 5-year strategic plan for the San Juan Bay Estuary Partnership (SJBEP).

 

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for coordinating stakeholder engagement and/or intergovernmental collaboration, including but not limited to, relevant municipalities, state and federal agencies, inter-organizational collaboration, Citizens Advisory Committee, and Water Community Network.
  • Responsible for the coordination and documentation of the CCMP Revision process.
  • Responsible for timely and proper follow-up related to stakeholder engagement.
  • Coordinates, supports, and/or facilitates meetings, working groups, events, and other activities related to the Management Conference and their committees.
  • Prepares agendas and briefings for stakeholder meetings and produce minutes of meetings ensuring all information is properly recorded on the database.
  • Responsible for ensuring stakeholder records are kept up-to-date and reflect latest contact and engagement activities.
  • Provides relevant information to stakeholders to generate interest and promote engagement.
  • Organizes and coordinates community relations events.
  • Tracks emerging stakeholder community concerns/issues.
  • Arranges and attends stakeholder meetings with technical team members as needed, ensuring feedback from stakeholders and requests to technical teams are responded to within agreed timescales.
  • Prepares and manages workshops, roundtables, and forum logistics including developing agendas, minute taking, and generates reports.
  • Develops and implements comprehensive and innovative community/stakeholder outreach plans targeting individuals, private, corporate, schools, and other organizations as needed.
  • Ensures that an accurate audit trail of all stakeholder engagement is properly kept and that all contacts and/or activities are recorded on a stakeholder database.
  • Recruits and coordinates volunteers as needed; promotes community involvement and coordinates the Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC)’s meetings.
  • Ensures that the overall reputation and profile of the organization is enhanced, helping to showcase the current and emerging strengths to drive reputation within relevant sectors and within our communities.
  • Researches, populates, and manages a database of event and speaking opportunities and prepares recommendations for project team members accordingly.
  • Supports development and coordination for sponsorship arrangements and relationships with businesses, individuals, schools, and other organizations interested in supporting the San Juan Bay EstuarY Partnership’s general operations and program areas as needed.
  • Engages with the public to ensure active participation in the SJBEP’s projects and initiatives to produce the necessary thinking and behavioral changes that are needed to sustain the progress made through our programs in implementing the CCMP.
  • Builds relationships and developing communication channels and dialogue with local government officials, private sector, and other outside organizations key to implementing the CCMP.
  • Works with the Grants and Compliance Manager to develop proposals to engage potential partners on behalf of the San Juan Bay Estuary Partnership as needed.
  • Participate in the process to contract service providers, researching and establishing partnerships with subject matters experts in the relevant field as needed.
  • Supports reporting, evaluation, and analysis, including maintenance of a dashboard, in collaboration with key project team members.
  • Works collaboratively with project team members in relevant initiatives as needed.
  • Assists in any other tasks to advance the work plans of the organization.

 

Required Qualifications (Education and Experience):

• Bachelor’s Degree required (preferred field: Urban Planning, Public Policy, Environmental/Marine/Biological Sciences, Engineering, or related fields.
• Four (4) to six (6) years of professional experience, preferrably in environmental related organizations/ non-profits.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

The ideal candidate is a bridge-builder who excels at making connections and managing relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including but not limited to high-level executives, public servants, and communities.

Additionally, all candidates will be and/or have:

  • Fully bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Excellent written communication skills in English and Spanish.
  • Excellent documentation skills, particularly in taking notes and minutes and action items.
  • Strong ability to track, document, and report progress in a structured manner and follow up on pending tasks and actions.
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills in English and Spanish, including public speaking to diverse audiences including but not limited to the government (federal, state, and local) sector, businesses, and communities.
  • Strong ability to synthesize information quickly and accurately.
  • Enjoys and works well independently and as part of a team.
  • Extremely detail-oriented while having the ability to think conceptually, ie “big picture” thinking
  • Proactive all around, from communication with diverse audiences to working with their team and
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, cloud-based data access, and shared software such as Google Drive.
  • Excellent with skills social networks and other virtual platforms/software to support the activities of the engagement and participation process.

Language Required:

Fully bilingual in English and Spanish.
