Family Day at Condado Lagoon Natural Estuarine Reserve
Join us for the next family day at the Condado Lagoon Natural Estuarine Reserve, on Saturday, December 2, 2023, starting at 2:00 p.m. at Jaime Benitez Park.
We will have a Christmas craft market, games, an interpretive walk and Estuary Cinema. This event is open to the public.

After the family day at the Condado Lagoon, Cine del Estuario presents: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever; on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. in the Jaime Benítez Park of the Condado Lagoon Natural Estuarine Reserve.

Coastal cleanup in Piñones
The community campaign for responsible solid waste management, Deja una huella limpia en Piñones, in collaboration with COPI, Arrecifes Pro-Ciudad, CRES, Surfrider Foundation, LimPiaR and the Estuario, invites you to participate in a cleanup in the coastal region from Boca de Cangrejos to Vacía Talega, on Saturday, December 9, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Gamaliel Pagán Hernández Christmas Bird Censuses
The Gamaliel Pagán Hernández Christmas Bird Censuses are back!
This season, we will be conducting censuses at 18 points around the San Juan Bay Estuary, between the dates of December 14, 2023, andJanuary 5, 2024.

Scout Bird Study Merit Badge
The San Juan Bay Estuary Partnership, in collaboration with the Council of Puerto Rico and the Guaitiao District of the Boy Scouts of America, will be offering the Bird Study Merit Badge.
Merit badge requirements will be offered in a virtual workshop via the Zoom platform. The workshop consists of two parts on different days, so participants must attend both virtual sessions.
1st Virtual Session: Wednesday, December 6, 2023 (6:00 PM to 7:30 PM)
2nd Virtual Session: Wednesday, December 13, 2023 (6:00 PM to 7:30 PM)
For the field requirement, we will have a list of dates to coordinate attendance at two bird censuses between December 14, 2023 to January 5, 2024. The listener must always be accompanied by an adult, so both must register on the dates they are going to attend. Bird censuses will be early in the morning from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
Scouts interested in participating must have approval from their Scoutmaster and ensure that an adult unit leader is registered and present for the two virtual sessions. To register, you can do so in estuario.org/eventos.
Other activities
For the second year in a row, the Los Tsunamis swimmers group, members of Amigos de la Laguna, held a materials pickup and public awareness event at the Condado Lagoon Natural Estuarine Reserve on Friday, November 24, 2023.
Twelve volunteers removed a total of 250 pounds of solid debris, including plastic, glass, aluminum, cardboard, metal, wood, and electronics. The Municipality of San Juan and the Estuario supported this event. Until next year!
Responsible diversion of cooking oil in Río Piedras Heights
On Wednesday, November 15, 2023, the community of Río Piedras Heights inaugurated its cooking oil diversion program.
With this initiative, the community establishes its commitment to the maintenance and protection of its gray infrastructure and the estuarine water bodies that surround them.
Weekly water quality monitoring
Evaluation carried out on Thursday, November 30, 2023. We have a GREEN flag for the Condado Lagoon Natural Estuarine Reserve. One station exceeded the Beach Action Value water quality standard of 70 CFU/100 ML; we recommend avoiding that area. Have a good weekend!
