The Water Quality Day is the biggest participatory science event in Puerto Rico.
A series of conversations about environmental, cultural, and economic relevance to the estuary from scientific and community perspectives have been recorded as podcasts. “Estuario Sonoro” is a variety of voices and perspectives about the importance of the estuary and its diverse dimensions. In “Deep Estuary” Millie Gil interviews scientists, consultants, and environmental leaders about topics related to the conservation of the estuary.
With the Identification and Detection of Illegal Discharge of the Estuary project we were able to precisely locate areas of high contamination at the sub-basin level in all the hydrographic basins of the estuary in order to fix these areas.
Guardians of the Estuary is a school program that promotes water quality research and monitoring between students and teachers. This school program, along with participation from the community, reinforces research skills related to water. We also offer other workshops and special activities to the guardians.
Civic science creates and applies scientific methods through collaborative models between professional scientists and the general public. We invite you to participate in our activities.
