Water Quality Day

Saturday, April 18 of 2026

Water Quality Day is Puerto Rico's largest citizen science event. It is coordinated by the San Juan Bay Estuary, in collaboration with state and federal agencies, environmental organizations, private organizations, and the volunteer community. This event has been held annually since 2009, with the purpose of encouraging citizens to conduct simple water quality tests in rivers, lakes, lagoons, estuaries, and the sea. It aims to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining our waters in good condition.

This event is sponsored by the grant CE99206929-3 from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Bacteriological monitoring kit E. COLI

The Compartment Test Bag (CBT) monitoring kit is a rapid test that requires no specialized equipment or training to collect data on fecal E. coli bacteria. While this test cannot be used for regulatory purposes, it will provide a semi-quantitative result and information on fecal contamination levels in a surface water sample.
