Law No. 112-2013 – County Lagoon Estuarine Nature Reserve
Capital city, biodiversity, urban conservation: this law formally establishes the Condado Lagoon as an Estuarine Nature Reserve, defines its boundaries, and tasks the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources (in collaboration with the San Juan Bay Estuary Program, the municipality of San Juan, and the Co-Management Committee) with developing a comprehensive management plan. Furthermore, it mandates the submission of annual reports on its administration to the Legislative Assembly, thus contributing to the protection of this unique natural enclave within the urban environment.
El County Lagoon Estuarine Nature Reserve (RNELC) Management Plan It establishes strategic guidelines for the protection, restoration, and sustainable management of this important urban ecosystem. The document integrates scientific information, environmental assessments, and public policy recommendations to ensure the conservation of its habitats and biodiversity, while promoting citizen participation and environmental education.
This plan is a key tool to guide present and future actions that promote a balance between conservation and responsible use of the lagoon, ensuring that it continues to be an accessible and resilient natural space for current and future generations.
