This week we're sharing opportunities for collaboration, volunteering, and employment through initiatives and activities planned to benefit the ecosystems and communities of the San Juan Bay estuary. These activities, tips, and information are for everyone's benefit.
Christmas Bird Censuses Gamaliel Pagán Hernández
Christmas bird censuses have begun! Join us in counting estuarine birds this season. Remember that these censuses count as field trips toward the Estuarine Citizen Scientist Certification in the Participatory Bird Census Module.

Development of the Estuary Risk Mitigation Plan
Our Multijurisdictional Mitigation Plan continues to advance through its citizen participation stage and the implementation of the workshop: Identifying Mitigation Strategies and Community Resilience.
To date, four in-person workshops have been held, where over 40 residents from the municipalities of Canóvanas, Cataño, San Juan , and Toa Baja have contributed information and exchanged ideas to strengthen this Plan and make their communities safer, healthier, and more resilient. This input is essential for the development of the Plan, which is also the first of its kind in Puerto Rico to use a regional approach.
We thank the Planning and Citizen Participation offices of the municipalities for all their support. This effort is and will continue to be possible thanks to you.

Resident Artists of the Estuary
We continue to accept proposals for new projects by Estuary Artists-in-Residence, to be carried out in our estuarine communities during 2022. Visit our website for more information. This call for proposals remains open until December 27, 2021.
Weekly water quality monitoring
Below are the results of the weekly bacteriological monitoring, carried out on Thursday, December 16, 2021. These results are also published on our social media channels.
We continue to have a green flag for the County Lagoon Estuarine Nature Reserve. We have some areas with red flags, so we recommend avoiding recreational use in those areas and being alert for precipitation events.
The restoration and water quality management efforts in the San Juan Bay estuary watershed are made possible by our supporters. Donations to the Estuary are tax-deductible in Puerto Rico and the United States.
