Part-Time Faculty
The San Juan Bay Estuary Partnership, also known as the Estuario, is seeking qualified applications for a part-time faculty contract with a background in civil engineering for the graduate course “Innovative Approaches for a Sustainable Water Infrastructure”. This course will focus on the development of resilient infrastructure and nature-based and will integrate a multisectorial view in the study and evaluation of socio-ecological-technological urban systems. In this course, graduate students will be guided toward interdisciplinary research.
The ideal candidate will perform diverse tasks related to the course, including but not limited to lecturing, grading students’; work, supervising students in fieldwork activities, or any other activity that guarantees the success of the course.
Responsibilities:
Assist in the design of the course syllabus.
Participate in all the lectures throughout the semester.
Follow up with invited speakers to guarantee their availability throughout the course.
Adjust syllabus as needed.
Develop and facilitate lectures related to the assigned topic, which may include nature-based solutions, and water infrastructure, among other topics.
Guide students through the semester in the development of their proposal.
Coordinate fieldwork activities with other faculty members and Estuario Staff.
Supervise and advise students in research and fieldwork activities.
Perform any other duties that will guarantee the successful completion of the course.
Develop rubrics to grade students’s work.
Required Qualifications (Education and Experience):
PhD in Civil Engineering or related field.
Over 30 years of experience in water resources management or related experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Civil Engineering or related field
Stormwater and Sanitary Water Infrastructure
Ability to effectively teach and mentor students from diverse backgrounds.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with colleagues and students.
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
Start Date:
As soon as possible.
Language Required:
Fully bilingual in English and Spanish.
