Family day trip at Condado Lagoon Natural Estuarine Reserve
Don’t miss the next family day trip at Condado Lagoon Natural Estuarine Reserve on Saturday, July 1, starting at 8:30 a.m.
We will have classes Rope Flow, yoga, the beginning of the creative process of the Mural con conciencia of resident artist Angélica Rivera, an interpretive walk, and the presentation of the campaign Con el estuario convivimos.

Summer workshop for educators
The San Juan Bay Estuary and the BirdsCaribbean Chiriría working group invite you to the workshop for educators: Chiriría and the conservation of wetlands, on Thursday, July 13, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Peninsula de Cantera Community Center.
In addition to the theoretical part, where we’ll discuss activities from the teacher’s manual: The wonderful wetlands of the insular Caribbean, the workshop will include a field trip. The field trip will be a kayak tour, which is required, and will be offered in two sessions (Saturday, July 15 or Sunday, July 16). The meeting place will be shared with registered participants.

The sounds of the estuary
The sounds of the estuary is a project of memory and sound documentation. Part of the creative process will consist of three tours, where the everyday sounds of various localities located within the estuary and its watershed will be recorded. These recordings, and the experiences embodied in them, will be the basis of a sound map that will be part of Estuario’s Atlas. The tours will take place on July 14, 23 and 27.

Second gathering for merchants of Loíza Street
Last Tuesday, June 27, 2023, the initiative for responsible management of solid waste, Que no toque el piso ni llegue al agua, summoned the merchants of Loíza Street to Taller Comunidad La Goyco, where we shared information about Act 51-2022, Law to prohibit the sale and use of single-use plastics in all commercial establishments.

Characterization of microplastics in the San Juan Bay
Last Saturday, June 24, we made a field trip as part of the microplastics characterization and reduction module from the certification for citizen scientists of Estuario.

Weekly water quality monitoring
Evaluation carried out on Thursday, June 29, 2023. We have a RED flag for the Condado Lagoon Natural Estuarine Reserve. We recommend avoiding the areas that exceeded the water quality parameter for enterococci (70 CFU/100mL). Remember to avoid bodies of water during rain events.
