The San Juan Bay Estuary Partnership, or Estuario is looking to hire a Green Infrastructure Specialist to support projects and stakeholder facilitation related to urban forestry, coastal resilience, restoration, and Estuario’s Green Infrastructure Master Plan.
Established in 1994, the Estuario is a partnership whose mission is to restore and conserve the waters and associated ecosystems of the San Juan Bay Estuary and its watershed to ensure the prosperity of our tropical ecosystems, the health of our communities and the vitality of the economy in the San Juan Bay Estuary and its urban watershed. The Estuario serves as a catalyst and facilitator, and operates as a regional, trustworthy, and science-based non-profit organization registered with the Puerto Rico Department of State. As a National Estuary Program, Estuario’s focuses on implementing the Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP) for the San Juan Bay Estuary.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop a plan for the management and maintenance of a plant nursery at Centro TAU and other sites as needed and provide expertise needed during the execution of the plan
- Develop partnerships with stakeholders to support reforestation efforts
- Lead discussions with relevant stakeholders to align interests and develop partnerships in green infrastructure, urban forestory, and reforestation projects.
- Facilitate coordination of regional restoration initiatives
- Develop strategies related to urban forestry, nature-based solutions, restoration, and coastal resilience efforts for projects under the work plan of these grants
- Provide support for the development of a green infrastructure master plan for stormwater management
- Identify and develop opportunities to advance reforestation and green infrastructure efforts in collaboration with other Estuario team members
- Evaluate capital improvement plans from municipalities and state water utility company and provide recommendations as to how to integrate nature based solutions.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Botany, Environmental Management, or other related field. Master’s degree preferred in related fields.
- Excellent ability to synthesize information and analyze data
- Experience working on interdisciplinary teams as well as independently
- Experience working in the San Juan Bay Estuary or with partners in the region is preferred
- Ability to effectively access and utilize computerized systems and equipment to complete assigned tasks, including; Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint; Adobe Acrobat; and other systems/programs as needed
- Own transportation and computer

The San Juan Bay Estuary Partnership (Estuario) is part of the National Estuary Program (NEP), created under Section 320 of the Clean Water Act (CWA), and managed nationally by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA). Its mission is to restore and conserve the water quality in the San Juan Bay Estuary ecosystem as a sustainable hub of social and economic development. Per Section 320 of the CWA, each of the 28 entities affiliated to the NEP must submit to EPA Administrator a Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP) to guide the restoration efforts of the most important coastal ecosystems for the economy of the Nation. The main responsibility of each organization under the NEP is to coordinate and measure the implementation of the plan in partnership with the community, state, local, and federal governments and the Academia.
