Contract Announcement — Legal Advisor

The San Juan Bay Estuary Program (SJBEP) is seeking a Legal Advisor to provide expert legal guidance to the Executive Director. 

The San Juan Bay Estuary Program is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation under the Corporation for the Conservation of the San Juan Bay Estuary Program (CCSJBE) that designs, implements and tracks restoration actions to improve water quality and associated ecosystems within the San Juan Bay Estuary system and its basin. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure compliance with organizational, donor, and regulatory reporting and filing requirements.
  • Ensure that the executive director has the resources and information required to comply with organization bylaws, agreements, and other governing documents.
  • Review, edit, and sign off on all contracts, including grant and loan agreements; MOUs with current and potential partners; and other contracts with third parties
  • Providing legal support and advice to Executive Director as needed
  • Researching legal matters for Executive Director as needed

QUALITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Juris doctorate from a major; accredited law school required.
  • Proactive and independent worker with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to manage time effectively and comply with deadlines
  • Provide their own personal computer and transportation.
  • Certified MBE/WBE (minority and women-owned business enterprise) and other certified minorities and small businesses are encouraged to apply.

Hourly Rate: $35

THE SAN JUAN BAY ESTUARY PROGRAM

The San Juan Bay Estuary Program (SJBEP) is part of the National Estuary Program (NEP), created under Section 320 of the Clean Water Act (CWA), and managed nationally by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA). Its mission is to improve the water quality of the San Juan Bay Estuary. Per Section 320 of the CWA, each of the 28 entities affiliated to the NEP must submit to EPA Administrator a Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP) to guide the restoration efforts of the most important coastal ecosystems for the economy of the Nation. The main responsibility of each organization under the NEP is to coordinate and measure the implementation of the plan in partnership with the community, state, local, and federal governments and the Academia.
