The Corporation for the Conservation of the San Juan Bay Estuary, or Estuario, is looking to hire a Curriculum and Assessment Specialist to prepare the curriculum in Spanish for a Professional Certification on Coastal Resilience.
The Corporation for the Conservation of the San Juan Bay Estuary is the non-profit entity incorporated in 2005 with fiduciary responsibility for the San Juan Bay Estuary Program, or Estuario. The Estuario is responsible for restoring and conserving the quality of the natural waters of the San Juan Bay Estuary and its watershed as a sustainable axis of social and economic development. Established in 1994, we are the only tropical and non-continental location within the National Estuary Program (NEP) under Section 320 of the Clean Water Act. Estuario’s success can be largely attributed to our integrated, multisectoral and community-led approach to restoring water quality. Estuario recognizes that water quality restoration requires making significant investments and coordinated collaboration between stakeholders at all levels and across all sectors for a sustained amount of time, sometimes decades. In order to ensure the effectiveness, longevity, and sustainability of our efforts to restore and conserve water quality, we put communities at the center of our work. Our projects rely heavily on local partnerships. The Estuario’s study area is located in the heart of the San Juan Metropolitan Region and extends throughout eight municipalities: Toa Baja, Cataño, Bayamón, San Juan, Guaynabo, Carolina, Loíza, and Trujillo Alto. The study area includes the San Juan Bay Estuary system, its related marine ecosystems, and the watershed which extends above a broad and flat coastal plain.
The Curriculum and Assessment Specialist must design the course such that the content and assessments must comply with the Estuario’s mission and vision and available in Spanish. The potential candidate is encouraged to collaborate with Estuario stakeholders and collaborators to develop a well-rounded program that focuses on content and practical experience. The Estuario expects that the Curriculum and Assessment Specialist will contribute with new and trending educational topics on Coastal Resilience and Water Quality that may include both in-person and virtual learning. The Curriculum and Assessment Specialist must be comfortable reading and summarizing educational reports, research-based articles, and similar texts to a broader audience that show interest in conservation and management practices. The contract will be until June 30, 2023 and the Service Provider will be expected to completed all responsibilities and delivered by this date.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepares a detailed project work plan, setting and executing deadlines.
- In collaboration with the project team, coordinates internal and external resources to develop and execute the Costal Resilience and Water Quality curriculum in Spanish for certification in the Estuario’s Citizen Science program.
- Conducts needs assessments to develop a Coastal Resilience Curriculum for a Professional Certification Program and ensures that the program will remain within defined scope of a Professional Certification.
- Creates learning objectives, contents, methodology and assessments strategies that align with the SJBEP mission and meets the professional needs of the prospective citizens.
- Creates, maintains, and manages all project documentation relating to curriculum (syllabus, course content, presentations, activity guides, manuals, training materials, and assessment, theoretical foundations, vision, mission, goals, standards contents, content outline, student and teacher’s role, etc).
- Selects textbooks, manuals, videos and other teaching materials that support the curriculum.
- Lead in the design and development of synchronous, blended, and asynchronous learning curriculum.
- Tracking project and providing regular reports on project status to project teams and key stakeholders.
- Evaluate current environmental monitoring activities (Water Quality Monitoring and Coastal Resilience Module) to include as part of the curriculum.
- Conduct analysis of the target audience for this certification
All service providers will be expected to:
- Coordinate any and all meetings with stakeholders, the public, or Estuario team as necessary.
- Attend any and all necessary meetings with Estuario to prepare and complete all project deliverables.
- Submit regular written reports to Estuario as requested.
- Provide own assistants, as needed.
- Cover own business and travel expenses and tools, including transportation, computer, computer software and licenses, materials, etc.
- Be able to work from outside the Estuario’s premises and be on-site as needed.
- Be able to provide evidence of liability and worker’s compensation insurance.
- Be in good standing with the Internal Revenue Service, both at the federal and state level.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree Required, (Master’s or Doctorate is preferred) from an accredited university in the following areas: Education, Curriculum Studies, General Science, Biology or Environmental Science
- Demonstrated experience in the design of Educational Guides, Curriculum Guides and Education and Research Activities
- Excellent verbal and written skills in both English and Spanish
- Demonstrated experience in environmental education projects is preferred
- Availability to participate in research work with Estuary staff at various points in the metropolitan area
- Have a means of transportation to participate in meetings and study tours at various points in the metropolitan area
