Estuario and National Park Service Collaborative Workshops
The second collaborative workshop between Estuario and the National Park Service of Puerto Rico happened on wednesday, April 14 2021. San Juan Past & Present: Histories of Nature, Science & Resilience attracted 42 participants. Next workshop is: Scientific Innovations in Old San Juan Fortresses of the 18th Century, on Wednesday, April 21 2021 at 3PM.
Asset Identification Workshops for the San Juan Bay Estuary Watershed Hazard Mitigation Plan
As of this week, Estuario has begun the scheduling of its Asset Identification Workshops for the municipalities of the SJBE Watershed. The workshops, which will be provided through Zoom, will provide basic training on what community assets are, and will feature a participatory mapping exercise. Estuario has begun promotion of its first calendarized workshops – check them out below.

Los pobladores de la comunidad Cantera, en San Juan, llegaron desde todo Puerto Rico en busca de trabajo durante la primera mitad del siglo pasado. A falta de viviendas, improvisaron casuchas a orillas de la laguna San José, entonces bioluminiscente y abundante en peces. José Santiago Reíllo, maestro y veterano líder comunitario, rememora cómo la actividad humana degradó aquel brazo de agua y cómo, décadas después, la determinación y unidad vecinal ha contribuido a restaurarla.
