The sounds of the estuary
The sounds of the estuary It is a sound recording and documentation project. Part of the creative process will consist of three trips, during which the everyday sounds of various towns located within the estuary and its watershed will be recorded. These recordings, and the experiences captured in them, will form the basis of a sound map that will be part of the Estuary Atlas. There are still spaces available for the tours that will take place on July 23 and 27, from 8:00 am to 10:00 am., in Central Park and Piñones State Forest, respectively.

Family day out at the County Lagoon Estuarine Nature Reserve
Estuario invites you to the next family day trip to the Estuarine Nature Reserve of the County Lagoon, Saturday, August 5, 2023, starting at 8:00 am in Jaime Benítez Park.

We will have the following activities:

[2:00 pm] – Ethnobotany workshop for tour guides [registration required] – If you want to learn about the uses of the plants found in the County Lagoon, this is the activity for you. Come and share information about the use of flora in different societies. Register at https://estuario.org/eventos/.
[3:30 pm] – Basic classes and exhibition of Olympic wrestling Do you know anything about Olympic wrestling? Coach Mabel Fonseca, along with the Huracanes de Tras Talleres team, will be giving us an instruction. Come and enjoy watching professional athletes.
[5:00 pm] – Inauguration of the Mural with Awareness Join us for the unveiling of the Mural with a Conscience by resident artist Angélica Rivera. Come appreciate the art and take the opportunity to ask questions.
[6:45 pm] – Prelude to Estuary Cinema – Learn about our educational campaign, “We Live Together with the Estuary.” This campaign seeks to raise awareness about the importance of conserving the waterways in the San Juan metropolitan area and how we can contribute to protecting them.
[7:00 pm] – Estuary Cinema presents Top Gun: Maverick – After the day trip, stay for the Estuary Cinema screening! It's free.
Plastic-free July

Events for educators and interpreters conclude successfully
The Estuary, in collaboration with BirdsCaribbean, offered its professional training workshop to educators last week: The Chiriría and the conservation of wetlandsto a group of educators from the estuary basin. We appreciate their commitment to continue educating about our ecosystems and estuarine biodiversity.
We also thank Península de Cantera and COPI for being part of these efforts.

Assessment conducted on Thursday, July 20, 2023. We have a GREEN flag for the County Lagoon Estuarine Nature Reserve. Some areas exceeded the monitoring standard. Beach Action Value 70 CFU/100 ML. We recommend avoiding these areas. Remember to avoid water during rain events.
