Greetings to our entire estuarine community. We send you our warmest regards and hope you are well upon receiving this email. We share These initiatives and actions are carried out week after week. These activities, tips, and information are for the benefit of everyone. This week we celebrate the World Health Day, promoting equal access to safe environments, clean air and water, food security and health services, the past 7 Wednesday of April of 2021.

Lecture Series: San Juan Past and Present: Stories about nature, science and resilience

The Estuary and National Park Service (NPS) continue their collaborative talks, inviting the public to participate in this series of presentations during Earth Month. These talks are offered by staff from both organizations with the goal of increasing knowledge and appreciation for our natural environment, history, and resilience issues in the historic San Juan area.  

The speakers at these talks are certified interpreters by the National Association for Interpreting (NAI). These talks will serve as contact hours for recertification as Guide-Interpreters (CIG) for NAI-certified guide-interpreters. 

The talks will be held via Zoom. The following topics will be covered: 

San Juan past and present: stories about nature, science and resilience

Wednesday, April 14, 2021, 3-4 PM –  Water quality at San Cristóbal Castle: use and management of the resource 

Wednesday, April 21, 2021, 3-4 PM – Scientific innovations in the fortifications of Old San Juan during the 18th century

Wednesday, April 28, 2021, 3-4 PM – Old San Juan amidst poverty, attacks, hurricanes, and pandemics

Workshops for your Public Health Merit Badge begin tomorrow. 

Attention Scouts – Estuary and the Guaitiao District of the Boy Scouts of America in Puerto Rico, in collaboration with the Graduate School of Public Health of the Medical Sciences Campus of the University of Puerto Rico, offer you workshops to obtain the Public Health Merit Badge. These workshops will be offered on Saturdays, April 10 and 17, 2021, from 10:00am to 12:00pm, through the ZOOM platform.

Identification of community assets for the estuarine Mitigation Plan

Participates in the identification of assets for the creation of Multijurisdictional Mitigation Plan from the San Juan Bay Estuary. To help us organize the working groups and ensure we receive your input, we request your information through this form:

The series of workshops will be offered virtually via the ZOOM platform, starting this April. We want this Plan to have robust citizen participation to ensure the greatest benefit for communities, especially those most at risk.
