Estuary Update!
Greetings to our entire estuary community. We send you our warmest regards and hope you are well as you receive this email. We are sharing these initiatives and actions carried out week after week. These activities, tips, and information are for the benefit of all. Last February 2nd, we celebrated World Wetlands Day , an ecosystem of paramount importance in our estuary watershed. We thank all the environmental organizations, communities, teachers, parents, students, collaborators, and estuary guardians who support our mission to educate about the importance of caring for our ecosystems.
Bird census on Wetlands Day
This week the Estuary participated in a census of waterfowl as part of the celebration of World Wetlands Day , celebrated every year on February 2nd.
The census was conducted in the wetlands of the Estuary surrounding Laguna los Corozos, Laguna San Jose, Canal Suarez, and Laguna Torrecilla . These ecosystems boast a great diversity and abundance of waterfowl.
We continue to conduct bird censuses across the various ecosystems of the Estuary, albeit on a limited scale. We hope to soon be able to call upon our volunteers again to join us in these citizen science activities.

Don't miss it! Tomorrow, Saturday, February 6, 2021, at 7:00 PM, enjoy Estuary Cinema. We continue presenting Estuary Cinema through our Facebook page with a special edition of environmental documentaries produced by the Ferré Rangel School of Communication and the Community Engagement Program of Sacred Heart University (USC) . This time, discover environmental documentaries that showcase our realities and the efforts of environmental organizations that work daily for the environment and their communities.
Estuarine Scout Wins Sustainability Merit Badge
We congratulate young Scout Ricardo Sánchez, from troop 685 of Puerto Nuevo, who successfully completed his review and final evaluation of the Sustainability Merit Badge offered by the Estuary, on Thursday, February 4, 2021.
Ricardo works for a more sustainable Puerto Rico and embodies the values of nature conservation to which we should all aspire. We continue with the evaluations of the young people who received the Sustainability Merit Badge.

We continue to recognize merchants in the project “It shouldn't touch the ground or reach the water”
On Wednesday, February 3, 2021, the Estuary visited the Piso Viejo business on Loíza Street to present awards to participants in the " Don't Let It Touch the Floor or Reach the Water" project . There are now 16 partners!
We recognize and appreciate Piso Viejo 's management's commitment to the health of our island's environment, as well as the support of our ongoing collaborators at Fundación Segarra Boerman e Hijos.

Call for Proposals: Boat Travel Service for Scientific Research
The Estuary is seeking proposals for boat tours in San Juan Bay and connected waterways. Submit your proposal on or before Friday, February 12, 2021. Learn more HERE.
Join the Community Water Network
Meetings are coming soon! We continue to invite everyone to participate and collaborate in the Community Water Network (RCA).
We thank each of the neighbors and leaders who have participated since the beginning of this network. They have been instrumental in the restoration projects and the building of resilient communities in the San Juan Bay Estuary watershed. Learn about this and other projects that will be taking place this year.
You are key to this effort. Join us and participate in personal and professional development activities, community improvement projects, and environmental initiatives. Let's build a resilient estuary!

Red mangrove planting in the Condado Lagoon Estuarine Nature Reserve
Last Saturday, January 30, 2021 , the Estuary supported a group of young EarthEcho Ambassadors in planting 92 red mangrove seedlings in three areas adjacent to Jaime Benitez Park in the Condado Lagoon. The young ambassadors also received a short presentation from the Estuary about the importance and benefits of green infrastructure in urban spaces.
We appreciate the continued support of the staff of the Municipality of San Juan , the community group Amigos de la Laguna , and the president of the Citizen Action Committee , Marisol Jiménez.
