El Wednesday, December 16, 2020 The awards ceremony began for participating businesses on Loíza Street, recognizing their commitment to the environment and water resources. These businesses are part of the project. It shouldn't touch the ground or reach the water; an initiative to improve solid waste management organized by the Estuary in close collaboration with Goyco Community Workshop and the Clean Machuchal Committee.
This recognition highlights environmentally friendly actions taken by businesses located along Loíza Street in their daily operations. These actions include: educating the public, providing filtered water, diverting and/or managing waste materials, avoiding disposable items, using compostable tableware and/or materials, recycling oil, using eco-friendly products, and practicing responsible cleaning.
The Estuary thanks artist and resident Yolanda Velazquez for the artwork and visual design of this campaign, and resident, cultural manager, and community liaison for the project, Iliana García, for her commitment and work in the Machuchal community and on Loíza Street. Thanks are also extended to the following businesses for their support in hosting this initiative:

We would like to take this opportunity to thank additional collaborators along Loíza Street, including the Goyco security guards. (Nilda, Carmen and Wanda), neighbor and collaborator keeping the streets and sewers clean and free of solid waste (Shorty), to the neighbor and collaborator in the initiative for the diversion and proper handling of used cooking oil in the Madrid Hardware Store (Benny Benítez) and the Segarra Boerman Foundation for your support in this project.

We continue to receive positive and welcoming responses, along with a desire to continue taking actions that will help improve the environmental management of each business. This commitment will create a more conscious, responsible, and environmentally conscious sector.
