Through our weekly update, we share opportunities for collaboration, volunteering, and employment; through initiatives and planned actions that benefit the ecosystems and communities of the San Juan Bay estuary. These activities, tips, and information are for the benefit of everyone. 

Estuary celebrates Earth Day

The San Juan Bay Estuary Program celebrated International Earth Day with activities planned with its staff and partners throughout the week of April 18-22. Here is a summary of the Estuary's participation in various events with our partners.

Certification of scientific citizens

Join us for the next round of workshops for Citizen Scientist certification. This May, we'll have elective workshops for all thematic modules.

  • Characterization and Reduction of Microplastics 
  • Participatory Bird Censuses 
  • Water Quality Monitoring
  • Coastal Resilience

Exhibition of estuarine artists

Estuary invites you to visit the exhibition: Art under the stars; by the Estuary's resident artist, Faviana Silva, the Saturday, May 7, 2022, at 6 PM At Jaime Benítez Park in the Condado Lagoon Estuarine Reserve, artwork created by children and young people from the Rayitos del Saber Homeschooling group will be on display as part of the Art for All project. We hope to see you there!

Estuary Cinema

El Saturday, May 7, 2022, Estuary Cinema presents: Luca; at 7 PM at Jaime Benítez Park in Laguna del Condado. Don't miss it! Bring your blanket or chair. This performance is free.

Beyond Plastic

Environmental justice and the changes needed to achieve it begin in our communities. Therefore, we invite you to a training session covering the current state of the plastic waste crisis on the island, what you need to know to take action, the measures that have been taken from a public policy perspective, and the platform created by established stakeholders. It will be offered on two dates. Friday, May 13 and Saturday, May 14, 2022, from 10 AM to 12 PM. Both dates will have the same workshop.

Weekly Water Quality Monitoring

Results of the evaluation carried out on Thursday, April 28, 2022. We continue with green flag For the County Lagoon Estuarine Reserve, we are reporting a red flag zone, so we recommend avoiding recreational use in that area and being alert for precipitation events.

The restoration and water quality management efforts in the San Juan Bay estuary watershed are made possible by our supporters. Donations to the Estuary are tax-deductible in Puerto Rico and the United States.
