Family Day at Condado Lagoon Natural Estuarine Reserve

This weekend, celebrate Earth Day Month with us at the Family Day at Condado Lagoon Natural Estuarine Reserve, on Saturday, April 6, 2024. We will have games, an interpretive tour (with Green Contact hours), a Water Quality Day of Puerto Rico training workshop, and Cine del Estuario. See more information at: estuario.org/eventos

Cine del Estuario

Cine del Estuario presents: Elemental; on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. at the Jaime Benítez Park of the Condado Lagoon Natural Estuarine Reserve. The film will be screened in Spanish with English subtitles. As always, this feature is free of cost. Bring your blanket or chair

Water Quality Day of Puerto Rico

The sixteenth Water Quality Day of Puerto Rico will be on Saturday, April 13, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in a body of water near you.

We continue to add dates for workshops and water quality kit drop-offs. Workshops and kit distribution began on April 1, and continue through April 12. See the dates and register on the event portal: estuario.org/diadecalidaddeagua

Employment Opportunities

Accountant – The San Juan Bay Estuary Partnership, also known as the Estuario, is seeking qualified applications for an Accountant to join our highly skilled team for projects receiving funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

Senior Project Lead (Juan Mendez Creek Restoration) – The San Juan Bay Estuary Partnership (Estuario) is seeking qualified applicants for the Senior Project Lead- Juan Méndez Creek position to lead project efforts in coordination with Estuario’s work and its team.

Stakeholder and Engagement Manager – The Stakeholder and Engagement Manager assists the Executive Director and the Management Conference with engagement, educational, and outreach activities. The position oversees and coordinates Management Conference (MC) committees and pursues new partnerships and funding opportunities; they provide staff support for the Management Conference and serves as a liaison for various external working groups.

Recruiting Services—Request for Proposals – The San Juan Bay Estuary Partnership, or Estuario, requests proposals from qualified individual or firms to provide recruiting services for various open positions (contractor and staff).  The selected firm will be responsible for sourcing, screening, and presenting qualified candidates to fill positions in accordance with the Estuario’s internal policies and procedures and other grant requirements.

Capacity Building and Facilitation Services—Request for Proposals – The San Juan Bay Estuary Partnership (Estuario) seeks qualified applicants to work at Capacity Building Services. The Capacity Building Services supports Estuario’s role as a regional convener, catalyst, and facilitator to restore and maintain clean waters that support a thriving ecosystem, healthy communities, and vibrant ecosystem in the San Juan Bay Estuary and its urbanized watershed.

Artistas Residentes del Estuario—Request for Proposals – Los Artistas Residentes del Estuario generan expresiones artísticas con el objetivo de involucrar a los ciudadanos en el proceso de conservación y restauración de la cuenca estuarina, de una manera creativa y culturalmente relevante.  A través del diálogo e intercambio de ideas sobre la restauración y conservación del ecosistema estuarino, los artistas residentes logran aumentar la conciencia ambiental y facilitar el desarrollo de una cuenca resiliente.

Other activities

Microplastics Characterization Field Trip:

On Saturday, March 30, five volunteers accompanied our Aquatic Waste Manager, Cristina Ramirez, to sample microplastics in the San Juan Bay and Margarita Channel, as part of the Microplastics Characterization and Reduction Module of Estuario’s Certification for Citizen Scientists.

Thanks to Zayra La Puerta, Sebastián Pérez, David Pérez, Nick López and Laura del Valle, for using their energy, effort and time in benefit of the waters and ecosystems of the San Juan Bay Estuary.

Weekly Water Quality Monitoring

Evaluation carried out on Thursday, April 4, 2024. We have a GREEN flag for the Condado Lagoon. We recommend avoiding the areas that exceeded the water quality standard for enterococci “Beach Action Value” of 70 CFU/100 ML. Remember to avoid bodies of water during rain events. Have a nice weekend!
