The Green Infrastructure Pilot Project in the Condado Lagoon Estuarine Nature Reserve is a green area restoration and maintenance initiative that we aim to replicate in other regions of the San Juan Bay estuary watershed. As part of the Estuary's Green Infrastructure Master Plan , this project involves planting various native species in different areas of the Reserve. These include red mangrove (Rhizophora mangle), almond (Terminalia catappa), eugenia (Eugenia borinquensis), emajagüilla (Thespesia populnea) , and sea grape (Coccoloba uvifera).

The presence of these species in the Reserve provides ecosystems for nesting, feeding, and coexistence with other species. It also contributes to reducing erosion and soil compaction, supporting coastal resilience. Similarly, it allows for the filtration of runoff, protecting the area from flooding.
The plantings also aim to recover foliage lost due to recent atmospheric events in the region.
