San Juan, Puerto Rico Continuing with the work plan and as part of the #EstuaryRevives campaign, Brenda Torres Barreto, executive director of the San Juan Bay Estuary Program (PEBSJ), announced today the installation of solar panels in San Juan, at the Caimito Community Center. This is a joint effort between the San Juan Bay Estuary Program, the Give Power Foundation, and Cypress Creek Renewables, which donated the equipment.

“We are providing a ray of hope to the Caimito community in San Juan. The Estuary's watershed originates in this community, and our mission is to sustainably manage water resources to achieve its restoration. There are communities surrounding the San Juan Bay Estuary that still lack basic services. We are supporting the community in its revitalization efforts, seeking innovative solutions that will benefit all its residents. This solar equipment will not only alleviate the current situation but will also be a source of energy for the future, thus promoting Puerto Rico's sustainability,” stated the Executive Director.

“Cypress Creek Renewables and the Give Power Foundation are thrilled to be working with Aireko and the Caimito community to provide clean, renewable energy and battery storage to the Caimito Cultural Center. This project was made possible by hundreds of individual donations and a dozen corporate partners across the United States. We are grateful for the help and support of everyone who made it happen. This type of project not only allows the Caimito Cultural Center to be powered again, but also serves as an example of what the future holds for a clean and resilient grid in Puerto Rico,” said Chris Quaterman, Vice President of Strategic Marketing for the company.

The Director reported that the purpose of installing these solar panels at the Caimito Community Center is to consolidate efforts in one location for the benefit of all, efforts that have already been underway with some difficulties due to the lack of electricity. This center provides support to families who still lack electricity, hosts community meetings, talks, and events, offers health services, and serves as a hub for cultural activities. It is the only free center serving the community.

The Estuary, along with the support of Give Power and the collaboration of Sor Isolina Ferré Centers, distributed water filters to 200 families in Caimito, Cataño and Loíza.
