Estuarine greetings! Below, we share the events, initiatives, and opportunities available to benefit the communities and ecosystems of the San Juan Bay Estuary. Have a great weekend!

Family day out

Celebrate Dad with the Estuary, on the next Family Day Trip to the County Lagoon Estuarine Nature Reserve, the Saturday, June 1, 2024.

Everyone is invited! We will have the following activities:

  • Kayak tour (specific terms apply) at 2:00 pm
  • Sports activity for dad at 4:00 pm
  • scavenger hunt (with Green Contact hours) at 5:00 pm
  • Workshop on endemic birds (with Green Contact hours) at 6:00 pm

Following the workshop on endemic birds, Estuary Cinema presents: Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse; At 7:00 pm in Jaime Benítez Park at the Condado Lagoon Estuarine Nature Reserve. The film will be shown in Spanish with English subtitles. As always, this screening is free. Bring your blanket or chair!

Estuarine professional training workshops for educators

The San Juan Bay Estuary invites educators of all levels to participate in the 2024 estuarine professional development workshop series. We will have the following workshops:

Green estuary: discovering the biodiversity of urban forests; Saturday, June 1, 2024, from 9:00 am to 11:30 am

Blue estuary: coastal ecosystems, biodiversity and water quality; on Saturday, July 13, 2024, from 9:00 am to 11:30 am

Both workshops will be held at the Condado Lagoon Estuarine Nature Reserve. Concepts related to terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, their biodiversity, and conservation will be discussed.

A certificate of contact hours will be awarded to those who participate in the entirety of each workshop (2.5 hours). Register today at estuary.org/events.

Call for Resident Artists of the Estuary

The Estuary is seeking proposals from artists to support the restoration work on the Juan Méndez ravine. See the call for proposals at [link missing]. estuary.org/jobs.

Job opportunities

Curriculum and Assessment Specialist - The San Juan Bay Estuary Partnership is seeking to hire a Curriculum and Assessment Specialist to prepare the curriculum in Spanish for a Professional Certification on Participatory Bird Census and Characterization and Reduction of Microplastics Module.

Video Production Services—Request for Quote – The San Juan Bay Estuary Partnership, Estuario, is looking to engage a professional consultant(s) to provide video production services to produce a video for the Estuario's 30th anniversary.

Citizen Scientist Certification

Water quality monitoring module:

Coastal resilience module:

Citizen Science certification through the Coastal Resilience module counts toward Green Contact hours or community service, as applicable, for high school students. Learn more at: estuary.org/students.

Weekly bacteriological monitoring

Assessment conducted on Thursday, May 23, 2024. We have a RED flag for County Lagoon. We recommend avoiding areas that exceeded the water quality standard for enterococci, "Beach Action Value," of 70 CFU/100 ML. Have a good weekend.
