Weekly Estuary Update
Estuarine greetings! This week, we invite you to celebrate the Greater Caribbean Manatee with a family day out filled with educational activities and tours at the Condado Lagoon Estuarine Nature Reserve. We've extended the deadline to submit your habitat restoration and conservation project, and we're inviting interpreters, educators, and community leaders to a workshop on green infrastructure. Also, learn about upcoming workshops and field experiences for the Estuarine Citizen Scientist Certification.
Family day out
Join us for the next Family Day Out at the Condado Lagoon Estuarine Nature Reserve, celebrating Greater Caribbean Manatee Day, on Saturday, September 6, 2025, starting at 3:00 pm at Jaime Benítez Park. We will have the following activities:
Sports activity [3:00 pm]
Educational talk: The Manatee of the Greater Caribbean: Treasure of the Condado Lagoon and the Caribbean (Green Contact/community service) [4:00 pm]
Interpretive tour: Mangroves and their relationship with marine life in the Condado Lagoon Nature Reserve (Green Contact/community service) [5:00 pm]
Educational talk: The water quality of the County Lagoon Estuarine Nature Reserve and its implications for marine life [6:00 pm]

Estuary Cinema
Estuary Cinema presents a new showing of Dune: Part Two on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 7:00 pm in Jaime Benítez Park at the Condado Lagoon Estuarine Nature Reserve. The film will be shown in Spanish with English subtitles. This showing is free. Bring your blanket or chair!
We've extended the deadline! Document your habitat restoration and conservation project
Each year, the Estuary documents the habitat restoration and conservation efforts being implemented by various sectors within the San Juan Bay estuary watershed. In this way, we recognize the progress we are making as a region in restoring and conserving our habitats, and we also gather valuable information to support public investment in these efforts.

Green infrastructure workshop for interpreters, educators, and community leaders
The Estuary invites everyone teachers, non-formal educators, interpreter guides and community leaders to the workshop, Green Infrastructure: benefits for water in the city; the Saturday, September 6, 2025, From 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the Capetillo Urban Garden, Nursery and Forest.
As part of the workshop, we will present concepts, benefits and public policy on urban green spaces and conduct a guided tour of the Capetillo Urban Garden, Nursery and Forest.

Estuary takes a city tour in Old San Juan
On Saturday, August 16, we again conducted the urban tour: Discovering the connections between the water of the city and the estuary; in Old San Juan.
We explored the ecosystems that are part of San Juan Bay, its geography, the connection of water from the city to the bay, the restoration and conservation efforts of the Estuary, and the actions we can take to contribute to the quality of our waters.

Weekly bacteriological monitoring
Assessment conducted on Thursday, August 28, 2025. We have a RED flag for County Lagoon. We recommend avoiding areas that exceeded the "Beach Action Value" water quality parameter for enterococci of 70 CFU/100 ML. Remember to avoid the water during rain events.
