Estuary Update!
Greetings to our entire estuary community. We send you our warmest regards and hope you are well as you receive this email. We are sharing these initiatives and actions carried out week after week. These activities, tips, and information are for the benefit of all.
Last Tuesday, June 8, 2021, we celebrated World Oceans Day. Thank you to each and every one of you who collaborate daily and are aware of the importance of conserving this resource.
Weekly water quality monitoring
We present the results of the weekly water quality monitoring, carried out on Thursday, June 11, 2021. These are published every Friday on our Facebook page.
New a series of from training workshops: identify risks and vulnerabilities
Estuary invites you to participate in the training workshops for the identification of risks and vulnerabilities of the communities in the San Juan Bay Estuary watershed.
These workshops aim to prepare you for the process of validating and documenting vulnerabilities that pose a risk to your community in the event of a natural or man-made disaster . They consist of an informational section, followed by a collaborative section where we will identify vulnerabilities in your geographic area with other members of the public.

Training workshop for interpreter guides
Estuary and NAI Region 3 “Sunny Southeast” invite you to a professional development workshop to promote improved standards of interpretation in the field of biodiversity. It will be held on Friday, June 18, 2021, at 3 PM via Zoom.
Interpreters, non-formal educators, community interpreter guides, and ecotourism guides are welcome.
The workshop counts as contact hours for CIG (Certified Interpretative Guide) recertification for NAI members.
Estuary Artist in Residence
Last Friday and Saturday, June 4th and 5th, 2021 — Juan Climent and Zuleyka Alejandro, resident artists at the Estuary, held the final workshops of their project, Creative Recycling at the Phalanstery . Six young people from the community attended along with their parents. The project focused on raising awareness about recycling processes through a series of workshops on creating furniture and artifacts using papier-mâché and cardboard. Through these workshops, the artists aimed to help the community reuse its solid waste by using their creativity.

Training workshop for environmental educators
The Estuary, in collaboration with the “Population Education” program, will be offering this professional development workshop for middle and high school educators. It will take place on Friday, June 25, 2021, at 3 PM via Zoom.
Teachers from the public and private school systems who teach science, social studies, history, geography, and/or environmental science are welcome to participate. Parents of homeschoolers and other educators who wish to integrate population-related activities into the school curriculum are also welcome to participate.
A certificate of contact hours will be awarded to those who participate in the entire workshop (2 hours). The workshop will be offered synchronously.
Puerto Rico Water Quality Monitoring Day 2021
Save the date! We invite you to mark your calendar for Puerto Rico's Water Quality Monitoring Day, Saturday, August 28, 2021. We'll be sharing the dates for the training workshops soon. Participate in this citizen science event that's taking place across the island. Choose your favorite body of water and learn about its water quality. Stay tuned to our social media channels and updates for more information.
