Estuary Update!
Greetings to our entire estuary community. We send you our warmest regards and hope you are well as you receive this email. We are sharing these initiatives and actions carried out week after week. These activities, tips, and information are for the benefit of all.
This next Tuesday September 7 2021, we celebrate the West Indian Manatee Day (Trichechus manatus), One of the most emblematic species of the Condado Lagoon Estuarine Nature Reserve, the manatee is protected by law and designated as the official mammal of Puerto Rico. Manatee Day seeks to continue educating, promoting, and encouraging the protection and conservation of this endangered species. The law prohibits direct contact with and/or causing any type of disturbance to the mammal. For this reason, we urge the public not to interfere with this species by avoiding feeding, provoking, or making contact with marine mammals. Let's celebrate and respect them.
Next week, starting on SaturdaySeptember 18, 2021, we will have the Estuaries Week. Stay tuned for the activities scheduled to commemorate this celebration, which culminates on Saturday, September 25, 2021.

Did you know that foam is plastic?
El foam As it is popularly known, it is one of the seven types of plastic that exist. polystyreneThe material PS, numbered #6, possesses several characteristics: it is lightweight, water-resistant, and can be an excellent thermal and electrical insulator. This versatile material, suitable for countless applications, threatens our natural resources, including water, by degrading and transforming into microplastics.
Creative Estuary We're sharing an alternative way to reuse these foam containers. We'll show you how to create prints by reusing these containers, as part of the art and culture activities at our Visitor Center. Give it a try!
