Estuary Update! 

Greetings to our entire estuarine community. We send you our warmest regards and hope you are well upon receiving this email. We share These initiatives and actions are carried out week after week. These activities, tips, and information are for the benefit of everyone.

This weekend we celebrate the Mother's dayWe congratulate all the women of Estuarine who, in one way or another, have contributed to our growth and development. We hope you have a happy weekend and thank you for your love and commitment.

Similarly, in light of recent events related to our current state of emergency due to gender-based violence, we join other organizations in condemning these violent acts and reiterate our commitment to being part of an organized, just, and multi-sectoral solution. Weekly water quality monitoring

Participate in Global Big Day 2021

Morning Saturday 8 2021 MayJoin us in counting and recording birds from your home or a nearby forest, through the app eBird. Last year, Global Big Day brought together more birdwatchers virtually than ever before: more than 50,000 people in 175 countries They submitted an astounding 120,000 checklists to eBird, setting a world record for a single day of birdwatching. Let's beat that record!

Participate in the new round of Citizen Scientist Certification workshops

Get certified as a citizen scientist! This May 2021 marks the start of a new round of elective workshops, including modules on Participatory bird censuses, Water quality y Characterization and reduction of microplastics. 

Next Wednesday, May 12, 2021, from 3-4 PM Don't miss the workshop on Water Quality: Bacteriological Analysis by Harold Manrique Hernández.

Identify assets in your community for the development of Puerto Rico's first Multijurisdictional Risk Mitigation Plan

Estuary continues to recruit collaborators from the areas coastal, urban and rural of the towns of Bayamón, Canóvanas, Carolina, Cataño, Guaynabo, Loíza, San Juan, Toa Baja and Trujillo Alto; for the identification of assets that contribute to the strengthening of communities through the Risk Mitigation Plan of the San Juan Bay Estuary watershed. 

The workshops scheduled for next week are: 

  • Trujillo Alto urban area: Monday, May 10, 2021, at 5:30 PM
  • Urban Cataño: Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at 5:30 PM
  • Coastal San Juan: Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at 5:30 PM
  • Canóvanas urban: Thursday, May 13, 2021, at 5:30 PM
  • Rural Guaynabo: Friday, May 14, 2021 at 5:30 PM

Call for applications: Coordinator of the 2021 Water Quality Monitoring Day

We are seeking a Coordinator to organize the largest Citizen Science event in Puerto Rico. The coordinator will be responsible for enthusiastically engaging all sectors of the DMCA and increasing participation, taking into account data from previous years. Their primary goal should be access to clean and safe water for all in Puerto Rico.
