Register for the Estuary Citizen Scientist Certification workshop: Introduction to participatory bird censuses

Participate in the new series of workshops for the Citizen Scientist Certification of the Estuary. This next Wednesday, March 3 of 2021 Don't miss the workshop Introduction to Participatory Bird Censuses 3-4 PM with Coral Avilés, education coordinator, and Eliezer Nieves, education manager. 

This workshop will introduce the basics of bird identification, while also covering the techniques, tools, and technologies for conducting bird censuses in the diverse urban ecosystems of the San Juan Bay Estuary.

The Estuary joins CASA's Bioblitz

The Estuary collaborates with the Bioblitz at the Santa Ana Environmental Center! This initiative involves counting birds and other wildlife and using this data as indicators of the health of the ecosystems in Julio Enrique Monagas National Park. We use a mobile application. eBird to document birds, species, individuals among others to learn about the biodiversity that inhabits this estuarine Urban Forest.

Learn with the new filters of the Estuary 

La Estuary Artist in Residence, Adriana García (@agarestudio)He concluded his project entitled “From reality to augmented reality” Held in the community of Machuchal with the support of the La Goyco Community Workshop. The artist, through workshops via Facebook Live, Zoom, and open houses, presented the following topics to the community: 

  • Humans are part of, and therefore responsible for, the estuarine ecosystem. 
  • The impact of waste in the city on our community and on the Estuary, particularly grease in the sanitary and storm sewers. 
  • Communities as an engine of change. 
  • Accessibility to works of art in the pandemic context, from home. 

The artist taught 5 workshops This series begins with how to draw two species found in the San Juan Bay Estuary: the brown pelican and the red mangrove. It then covers how to use free tools to digitize your image and create a basic augmented reality filter. Finally, it concludes with a comprehensive workshop for communities, "Creating Content for Community Organizations," which utilizes free tools to create an effective visual identity.

Call for “Critical Habitat Coordinator”

The Estuary is looking for interested candidates to help as Critical Habitat Coordinator for the management of critical sea turtle nesting habitat and the sea turtle recovery plan in the San Juan Bay Estuary system. Virtual seminar: Water quality trends in Puerto Rico: Where are we 40 years after the Clean Water Act 

El Dr. Gustavo Martínez, Professor at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus It will present the impact of the Clean Water Act on historical water quality trends in Puerto Rico's rivers. Workshop – Is my water safe to drink?: Interpreting Laboratory Results 

El Wednesday, March 17, 2021 RCAP Solutions will offer the workshop Is my water safe to drink? - Interpreting Laboratory Results, This workshop will identify the factors that affect the sampling results of our drinking water system.
