Estuary Update!

To all our volunteers, collaborators, followers, and the entire estuary community, we hope you are well upon receiving this email. The Estuary invites you to participate in the following activities scheduled for next week. We are also sharing the initiatives and actions carried out this week. These activities, tips, and information are for the benefit of everyone.

Estuary Citizen Scientist Workshop Series 

Last Wednesday, July 15, 2020, a new round of online workshops for citizen scientists began. The workshop Water Conservation and Management in Puerto Rico, With the coordinator of citizen scientist certification and water quality monitoring Harold Manrique, and the director of permits and franchises of the DRNA Nelson Velázquez, it had a total of 102 participants.

It's part of the next workshop, From Solid Waste to Microplastics: Legislation and Opportunities with the coordinator of aquatic waste alliances and projects of the Estuary Cristina Ramírez and the engineers Hanna Rodríguez and Laura Lugo, members of the Caribbean and Puerto Rico chapter of the Solid Waste Association of America (SWANA).

The Estuary continues to educate the public about best practices reduction of COVID-19 contagion, as part of their community resilience projects. It is important to understand what physical distancing entails, and the positive impact it can have on reducing new cases. Take care of yourself, your family, and your community.

Host Mariana Reyes talks with the Community resilience coordinator for the Estuary, Rebecca González. Agronomist Gabriel Agosto describes methods of planting and growing at home, Community leader Wanda Figueroa He tells us about the Resilient Community Center of Puente Blanco and Estuary Director Brenda Torres It highlights the importance of empowering and participating communities in the processes of restoring and managing their water bodies.
