Estuary Update

Through our weekly update, we share opportunities for collaboration, volunteering, and employment; through initiatives and planned actions that benefit the ecosystems and communities of the San Juan Bay estuary. These activities, tips, and information are for the benefit of everyone.

Last Saturday, August 27, 2022, the largest participatory science event on the Island took place, the Puerto Rico Water Quality Monitoring Day. It turned out spectacular! More than 200 monitoring points were registered, with over 1,500 participants across the entire island and with a stellar group of collaborators and sponsors. Stay tuned for our next weekly update, where we'll share more details and photos. If you couldn't participate this year, get ready for next year!

Gallery—monthly water quality monitoring

During the last week of August 2022, the monthly water monitoring of the main bodies of water in the San Juan Bay estuary watershed was carried out. Thank you to the volunteers who joined us! Your commitment makes a big difference.

Community Water Network

Last Saturday, August 27, Water Quality Monitoring Day was held in Puerto Rico. The Community Water Network participated in the event, which culminated in a gathering on the banks of the Piedras River in Jardines Metropolitanos, alongside the community group Guarda Ríos and with the participation of CAUCE, Las Curias, Por las Aguas, and UPR Bayamón. During the gathering, a tour was conducted of the ecological corridor created by Guarda Ríos along the riverbank, featuring the planting of more than 50 types of native trees. Weekly bacteriological monitoring

Evaluation carried out on Thursday, September 1, 2022. We have green flag in the Condado Lagoon Estuarine Nature Reserve. There are two areas on our coastline that do not meet the quality standard, so we recommend avoiding these areas and being alert to precipitation events.
