Estuary Update

Tropical Storm Fiona is approaching the island. From the Estuary, we remind you that many of you have emergency equipment, first aid supplies, water filters, and people in your communities trained for emergency situations, through the five Resilient Centers located within the watershed that we manage.

Your safety and that of your loved ones is our priority before, during, and after the event. The storm brings with it the possibility of flash floods, flooding, sewage overflows, and other events that could affect the water quality in your communities. We invite you to document and share these situations us.

Additionally, we share with you the map of sustainable resources and infrastructure From the Segarra-Boerman and Sons Foundation, a database where you can find centers with sustainable resources and/or infrastructure in your local area. These are managed by different entities located throughout the island.

Download the Community Hurricane Preparedness Guide and follow their recommendations this season. The strength and resilience of your community begins at home. This September, we continue to urge communities to recognize the risks of natural disasters and stay informed.

National Estuaries Week

From September 17-24, we will have the National Estuaries WeekThe purpose of this event is to highlight the importance and value of these ecosystems to members of Congress, federal agencies, and state and local governments.

The coastal ecosystems of our estuary are the first line of defense against storm surges and storms. Their importance is even more relevant in the context of Fiona, which is currently approaching our island.
