The Estuary, in collaboration with the National Park Service in Puerto Rico (NPS), invites teachers, students, heritage and environmental interpreters, and the general public to participate in the lecture series; San Juan past and present: stories about nature, science and resilience.
This series of talks will be offered by staff from both organizations with the goal of increasing knowledge and appreciation for our nature, history, and resilience issues in the historic area of San Juan.
The speakers at these talks are certified interpreters by the National Association for Interpreting (NAI). These talks will serve as contact hours for recertification as Guide-Interpreters (CIG) for NAI-certified guide-interpreters.
The talks will be held via Zoom. The following topics will be covered:

Wednesday, April 14, 2021, 3-4 PM – Water quality at San Cristóbal Castle: use and management of the resource
Wednesday, April 21, 2021, 3-4 PM – Scientific Innovations in the Fortifications of Old San Juan during the 18th Century
Wednesday, April 28, 2021, 3-4 PM – Old San Juan amid poverty, attacks, hurricanes, and pandemics
