Coordinator of Water Quality Day (2025)
Opportunity for a professional services contract
Led by the San Juan Bay Estuary, the Water Quality Day It is the largest citizen science event in Puerto Rico, as well as the only island-wide water quality monitoring event. More than 10,000 citizen scientists have participated since 2009.
We are seeking an Estuary Coordinator to organize this event. This person will be responsible for enthusiastically engaging all sectors of the community and increasing participation, taking into account data from previous years. Their primary goal should be access to clean and safe water for all in Puerto Rico.
Responsibilities:
Their main responsibilities will be:
- Identify and assist island-wide collaborators to support the event, whether by offering training workshops, distributing monitoring materials, welcoming the public on the day of the event, etc.
- Recruit and maintain communication with organizations, private entities, community groups, schools, Estuary resilient centers, government agencies, and private corporations across the island to get them involved.
- Offer workshops, both in person and virtually, on the methodology for collecting and analyzing water samples at the island level.
- Distribute monitoring and information materials to monitoring stations around the island.
- Provide support to the groups and individuals participating before, during, and after the event.
- Responsible for ordering, maintaining, and inventorying monitoring materials and other necessary materials.
- Participate in press conferences, videos, press briefings, etc. to promote the event.
- Collect and digitize all the results.
- Generate final event report.
Required Qualifications (Education and Experience):
- Experience coordinating events.
- Possess skills in coordinating workshops and training for groups.
- Preferably, have participated in Puerto Rico's Water Quality Day.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Effective communication skills.
- Organizational skills, time management, and public speaking.
- Must have a personal computer, own car, and be available to travel across the island.
