Introduction
The State of the Estuary is part of the San Juan Bay Estuary Management Plan published in July 2000. This chapter provides a broad characterization of the estuarine system and its watershed, documenting the environmental conditions and major challenges identified during the development of the plan.
The report addresses topics such as water and sediment quality, sources of pollution, erosion and sedimentation, changes in water flow, wetlands and mangroves, submerged aquatic vegetation, coral communities, fisheries resources, wildlife, and aquatic debris.
