What will we be discussing?

The 2024 Estuarine Summit began on December 2nd. This large-scale event brought together experts and knowledgeable individuals in the field of urban sustainability and resilience to foster greater integration and collaboration across diverse sectors and disciplines. We enjoyed panels where experts in best practices for watershed management presented findings on the current state of the Estuary.

On December 3, a series of presentations were held to support the development of a tropical resilience index that will allow us to measure progress in advancing our mission to restore and conserve the water quality of the San Juan Bay Estuary system, its watershed, and related ecosystems. With this index, we hope to measure progress in improving water quality and conditions in the system over time.

On December 4th, the Estuary hosted the Puerto Rico Watershed Symposium. Representatives from federal and state agencies, as well as third-sector organizations, shared information on available resources and best practices in watershed management. Experts and specialists in urban sustainability and resilience gathered to foster greater integration among the various sectors and disciplines in the region. The day concluded with a poster session showcasing graduate student research projects focused, in one way or another, on the study of watersheds.
