COMMUNITY RESILIENCE OF THE SAN JUAN BAY ESTUARY PROGRAM
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The San Juan Bay Estuary ( Estuary ) is seeking professional services to be part of the relief efforts, as well as the short and medium term restoration plans within the 97 square miles of the urban estuarine watershed during the period from October 1, 2018 to September 30, 2019.
The Community Resilience Coordinator in the education sector will support the San Juan Bay Estuary 's efforts to revitalize communities and restore water bodies within the estuary system . To this end, the Coordinator will be present in the community, conducting workshops for schools, community groups, municipalities, and universities. Their focus is on transferring technical information to groups interested in managing green spaces for stormwater runoff and stabilizing coastlines through strategic planting to revitalize the estuary system.
The Estuary provides several tools to incorporate into traditional education curricula for project-based environmental education, as well as retraining citizens in areas related to environmental restoration.
One of these initiatives is Estuary Guardians , which offers students the opportunity to receive training on monitoring protocols so they can participate in safeguarding the waterways. In addition to this effort, the San Juan Bay Estuary coordinates empowerment among schools through Inter-School Committees. Furthermore, the Estuary trains and empowers a new generation of sustainable leaders with the capacity to act as citizen scientists, systematically collecting data on the health and condition of their communities and on water quality. To this end, the Estuary offers formal curricula under the Citizen Scientist Certification program. This certification is offered at the San Juan Bay Estuary Center, at universities, and in green classrooms established by the Estuary.
Our goal is to develop the communities of the San Juan Bay Estuary system economically, culturally, and socially without compromising the value of the ecological resources of this system and its services, nor the development possibilities for future generations.
REQUIRED CREDENTIALS :
1. Bachelor's degree, or graduate studies, from an accredited university in the areas of Pedagogy, Geography, Agronomy, Recreation and Sports Management or Social Work.
2. Experience managing projects holistically, incorporating the needs and interests of various sectors. Experience managing youth groups.
3. Experience in projects aimed at the community and its well-being, sustainability, working in the metropolitan area with communities and project management.
4. Transportation and own computer.
5. Available to work remotely and 7 days a week, according to the community and PEBSJ calendar.
COMPENSATION
The compensation for the contract will be discussed and determined based on the candidate's credentials and experience.

Founded in 1994 , the San Juan Bay Estuary is a non-profit organization whose mission is to restore the San Juan Bay Estuary system , the meeting point of river water with the ocean in eight municipalities.
