Job Opening: Community Resilience Coordinator

The San Juan Bay Estuary (Estuary) continues to provide support to communities during severe weather events, such as hurricanes and droughts. This allows our communities to cope with other challenges, such as earthquakes and the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, Estuary is seeking professional services from an individual interested in continuing these efforts, through collaboration with the Urban Waters Ambassador, communities within the Caño Martín Peña district, and Estuary's resilience centers.

The Community Resilience Coordinator will be supporting community resilience activities remotely and using virtual mechanisms to achieve effective communication with communities.  

TASKS TO BE DONE

  • Continue virtual or in-person engagement with communities within the Caño Martín Peña district and the Estuary's resilience centers.
  • Working in coordination with the Estuary's resilience team to reduce the amount of aquatic waste generated during the COVID-19 crisis.
  • Increase awareness of the consequences of improper solid waste disposal.
  • Increase the virtual participation of communities in the metropolitan region in training workshops. 
  • Coordinate and work virtually with community-based organizations. 
  • Identify organizations to collaborate with and complete Community Resilience goals. 
  • Implement community resilience initiatives in sub-basins of the San Juan Bay Estuary.

REQUIRED CREDENTIALS:

  1. Bachelor's degree, or graduate studies, from an accredited university in the areas of Geography, Environmental Sciences, Community Development.
  2. Experience managing projects in a comprehensive manner, incorporating the needs and interests of various sectors.  
  3. Experience in projects aimed at the community and its well-being, sustainability, working in the metropolitan area with communities and project management.
  4. Ability to manage projects virtually. Must have own computer.
  5. Available to work remotely and 7 days a week, according to the community and Estuary calendar.
  6. Available to participate during Estuary strategy and operations meetings via the ZOOM and Google Meet platforms.
  7. Support the Urban Waters Ambassador of Urbanas Caño Martín Peña in the advancement of the Ecosystem Restoration Project and the socio-economic development projects within the district led by Proyecto ENLACE and the Company for the Integral Development of the Cantera Peninsula.

Founded in 1994, the San Juan Bay Estuary is a non-profit organization whose mission is to restore the San Juan Bay Estuary system, the meeting point of river water with the ocean, in eight municipalities.
