The San Juan Bay Estuary (Estuary) is seeking professional services from an individual interested in participating in the development of a new public policy aimed at achieving a greater impact on the effective management of waste in the study area. This will involve developing a strategic model that integrates oversight and incentives for the implementation of the public policy in collaboration with all sectors. This will help to further raise awareness about the connection between waste management, water quality, and public health. We will utilize a water monitoring system as a tool to identify improvements in water quality and correlate changes with the measures implemented through an educational and quantitative process. Simultaneously, we will increase the diversion of used cooking oil in the community, preventing contamination and clogging of water infrastructure.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Facilitate and maintain constant communication between the community and actions between residents, merchants, entities, organizations and government through Loiza Street and the solid waste management project.
- Coordinate and facilitate visits, meetings and activities related to the scope of the project, both virtually and/or in person.
- Support the formation of a network of merchants who seek and support reducing and diverting the solid waste generated.
- Continue the recognition process for merchants and project participants.
- Support the recruitment of volunteers to support efforts to reduce waste and segregate materials.
- Drafting quarterly progress reports.
- Working in coordination with the Estuary's resilience team to reduce the amount of aquatic waste generated during the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Increase awareness of the consequences of improper solid waste disposal.
- Increase the virtual participation of communities in the metropolitan region in training workshops.
- Increase awareness and commitment to the environment and water quality, improving behavior regarding waste generated by businesses, residents and visitors.
- To support the development of a strategic and replicable model for the efficient management of waste that integrates reduction, reuse and recycling, empowering communities, supporting the commercial sector and facilitating public management.
- Working with the public policy coordinator focused on solid waste management and sustainable materials management.
REQUIRED CREDENTIALS:
- Bachelor's degree, or graduate studies, from an accredited university in the areas of Social Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Community Development, etc.
- Experience managing projects in a comprehensive manner, incorporating the needs and interests of various sectors.
- Experience coordinating meetings and facilitating communication between sectors.
- Experience in projects aimed at the community and its well-being, sustainability, working in the metropolitan area with communities and project management.
- Flexible, positive attitude, focused on finding solutions and a desire to achieve results.
- Ability to manage projects virtually and as part of a team.
- Ability to manage time effectively.
- Available to work remotely 7 days a week, according to the community and Estuary calendar. Must have own computer.
- Available to participate during Estuary strategy and operations meetings via the ZOOM and Google Meet platforms.
- Being a resident of the Machuchal community and having a relationship with the community.
